Just had another thought too, if this all falls mostly as rain then it will wash away most of that precious grit salt and waste it!

I cannot see the Met Office warning coming true, people will be very lucky indeed to get more than an inch on low ground. Saying that though the snow is gradually getting heavier here, but it is still not settling, and if I am honest I don't expect it to all evening.

Despite a bit of a thaw today in the sun, there is still widely 6-7 inches undisturbed. Very little thaw to speak of in the shade. Obviously in the town centre its very slushy, but here on the outskirts there is still plenty of snow. Did dig out the cars and drive this morning. There is a slab of ice 2 inches thick at the bottom, welded onto the asphalt. Back breaking work. Loads of people were digging out today - seeing as most people didn't go anywhere Thursday/Friday, I suspect most people want to go in tomorrow. Interesting to see the snow reports - not settling on wet surfaces. I think it will settle here because there is still too much snow. Thaw is slowing anyway, as it has everyday after about 3pm. Only expecting 2-3 inches out of this, which will thaw ahead of tuesday morning's snowstorms. Ironically this snowfall evening/tonight looks the least marginal of any snow we've had this week in terms of uppers etc! Don't know how late tomorrow/tuesday will pan out. If we have heavy rainfall initially it might clear all the snow. I don't know.

ONLY!? 2-3 inches is a lot IMO, besides I can't even see it settling much the way it's carrying on, might be lucky to get 3cm.

The flakes could be the size of footballs here but they wouldn't settle. Met Office got it wrong I'm afraid!

In fact, all this wet snow is going to do is just wash the grit off the roads, and with the severe shortage that could open a whole new world of problems.

Very light, wet looking flakes starting to fall here now. The timing of its arrival is okay though. Still expecting it to settle when it gets heavier - there aren't many areas not covered by still a thick cover in the environs of my house. Only those subject to vigourous snowman making and tyre tracks.

This is going to be a big let down tomorrow for anyone in the Midlands or South expecting snow from it. It's not going to happen.

Thats from the latest GFS run that came out about 15 minutes ago, it's over. No more snow for Northants, none for Leicester, none for Birmingham.
