aren't the winds forecast later tonight?

Well looking at the pressure on the GFS chart viewer I'd thought a bit more around than there is. Certainly the isobars get tighter later on.

Yep the warmest part of the warm sector has arrived over you - illustrated nicely by the NMM tonight (albeit that I think it has the low tracking a little way south of where it actually is):

And there was me hoping that if we continued at the current rate we'd reach 25c by midnight. I guess I'd better put my shorts away again then :D

Can someone clear something up - As i'm confused....

Is there a main band to come after this, or is this it?

By the looks of the radar, it will have cleared London by 9pm....

Am I getting this wrong?

Strange that there's so little wind about. Just looked on XC weather and nothing of note anywhere. At the moment it's the rain and snow that's the talking point. Maybe the quietest storm ever ????

Also it seems the prec band is pushing further north than expected and being more of snow than thought earlier.

Looks like the low is further north than expected looking at the wind arrows at the south coast and maybe further east than forecast at this time maybe I hope not.

Strongest winds look to peak between 9 and 6am so more snow to drift is what I want now which looks to be getting slightly heavier,I wouldn`t be surprised that it is drifting up the top now as it`ll be below 0c there.

I also noticed they removed the risk of snow for E counties tomorrow morning as the LP pulls away and this is definately due to the warming effects of the N sea as the upper temps are actually colder!

I'm not sure that is correct. The BBC News24 forecast said that it would turn back to rain/sleet in the South East as it cleared because the precipitation was much less intense.

..spoke too soon about the lack of wind - it has just arrived and first few gusts 10mph +, hardly a storm, but headed in the right direction.

Temperature now down to 0.8c and the ppn is all snow, albeit still very wet stuff.

My understanding is that although the rain has moved up from the south so far, the wrap around effect behind the low (which is moving up the Channel) means that the rain to your North West will start moving back towards you.

For the first time tonight, the wind is noticeable. Its now really gusty and you can hear it blowing down the chimney! And the temp drop is staggering as its roughly dropping 0.2C every 10 mins. Moderate/heavy snow for the past 25 mins.

Hi Snowmadchrisuk

Nick shouldn't be getting too stronger winds from this, the main problems are further north, hence Paris airports closed until tomorrow. My home in the Charente 150 miles north of Nick is just on the edge of the Orange warning zone and winds are just starting to pick up. According to the French Meteo we could be in for 150 kilometer and hour gusts over night, but Nicks area should be in the clear this time.

Cheers

FC

Met office update to snow on higher routes here in North Hampshire.

Looking at the Sat24 radar the centre of the low appears to be heading East or slightly ESE.

Rain at present with the odd ice crystal.

Where is that low now? It's snowing heavily here and has been for a couple of hours but it's not very windy. Light rain all day before that but the temperature dropped a couple of degrees quite quickly and the rain turned to snow.

Judging by that, I would say the low is further south than expected even as late as this afternoon?
