Do you think the met are been a bit rash saying 5cm+, even ilkley (north leeds 30m} is forecast some heavy snow.

Its depends on the intensity of the precipitation band when it hits the pennines. If it remains heavy the freezing level could fall and lower levels might get something. 5cm is very optimistic away from the highest ground though. Temperatures are generally too high already for accumulations though forecasting snowfall is notoriously difficult even when just a couple of hours out!

NW Radar showing Sleet here, however looking out the window theres not even any drizzle outside. If anything does start to turn wintry in the next few hours though I'll keep you all posted. Heaviest of the PPN looks to be to the North and South of here anyway, the "Shield" must have been activated tonight unusually.

Just found a weather station about 15 miles SW of here at almost the same altitude as me.

http://saysarts.co.uk/wearweather/AWS/mainframe.htm

Temp is 2C and dewpoint -1.4C. A long as things don't change too dramatically surely i'll have a bit snow to look forward to later :)

Not looking good for low areas near the coast though, temp at South Shields is 4.9C and dewpoint 1C.

Also a quick question, a while back someone posted a link to a site with loads of roadside weather observations all over England with temps, dewpoints, current weather etc. Does anyone have that site handy?

It snowed pretty much all of the way from Livingston until the edge of Glasgow on my commute home, further west and it is just sleet over the hills here. What did fall didn't settle or cause any probblems really, just a lot of very wet snow flakes coming down! Nice to see my first low level (ish) snow of the winter though :)

I'm about 110 metres asl and temp is currently 3.2c with dew point bang on 0c . From the met office radar the ppn doesn't look to far off. Preparing myself to be disappointed.

Intresting forecast by look north, weather man said snow level around 400-500 feet, and he never mentioned it turning back to rain. Btw 400 feet is 120m.

Looks like the opposite here, in the last hour temp has gone from 2.0C to 1.6C and dewpoint from -1.4C to -0.6C

I'm keeping an eye on the heavier PPN just NW of Manchester, this is heading NE so that could be the bit that crosses NE England, if the Pennines don't do too much damage.
