Foggy and miserable here!

If anything the temps have edged up a bit, 4.6C now. I can see mysef booking a ski holiday to get over the impending anti-climax. Hmmm NW ski holidays... patent pending.

Already in the Pipeline - No Patent Needed Matt :):)

Really?

None of my friends ski (freaks) so that would be awesome! (It gets tiresome kidnapping people to go skiing with) :)

Daisy: Places in the east of the region might get some later today. Think that was the general gist of it.

:) Please could someone tell me what the local weather has said for the south west?

On the BBC Weather site, there is a forecast video box on the right hand side. Play the video there!

For Points West: http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/3?&search=bristol&itemsPerPage=10&region=uk

For Spotlight: http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/13?&search=plymouth&itemsPerPage=10&region=uk

For South Today: http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/318

Hope that helps!

I'm liking the look of the snow risk charts now for Thursday evening.

I hate to be a misserable bugger but although our whole region is under snow risk on that if you look closer it has a 200m snow line so it would be a very marginal event wouldnt it? mellow.gif

I am very jealous if you are correct. Barely managing to get sleet here on mendips so far! ppn is fading away as well which seems early unless it is meant to pep up again later. wallbash.gifwallbash.gif

FRONT PAGE

Weather type:

Moderate to Heavy Snow, Ice and frosts

Alert risk period:

16/12/09 18:00 until 18/12/09 18;00

Alert details:

Alert for Moderate to Heavy Snow, Ice and frosts

To cover the period 1800Z Wednesday until 18Z Friday

Areas to be affected by the snow=central and eastern areas over and east of high ground, including East Anglia, the south East, parts of the Midlands and central southern England.

As the cold air advects east through late Wednesday and Thursday precipitation will turn readily to snow, firstly over high ground but fairly readily on low ground. Coastal areas may get just a slight slushy cover. Inland totals of 2-5cm are expected on low ground, in some places, with amounts of 10cm possibly more for the eastern hill slopes. This band of snow will clear away during Friday.

As the winds pick up from an easterly point then some drifting of the lying snow is going to occur on the higher ground especially.

Coupled with this will be frosts each evening lasting into the morning with temperatures only rising to 2-4C for a time in the day. Icy surfaces will occur.

This Alert may be modified or amended as seems necessary.

Other areas of the country will begin to experience similar temperatures but only light sleet or snow in the period of THIS Alert.

Please be aware that the spell of wintry weather is going to last, at least, over the weekend, with further Alerts needed over that period. All the models are currently showing winter staying with the winds changing to the north over the weekend.
