The snow band doesn't arrive until the early hours- plenty of time for the temps to drop (which they will start doing shortly as the sun drops) in time for it's arrival.

So it should fall as snow - fingers crossed!

Watching the snow gently fall yesterday, the light caught it in such a way as if, a waterfall of jewels from heaven. Snow is truly beautiful almost magical.

It's not arriving that late is it? I thought it was arriving about 9-10pm?

A seldom observed Ice Day in bright sunshine. Not recorded one in these conditions before. Sub-zero maximums from freezing-fog are not that uncommon here, but there has been hardly a cloud in the sky. After reaching -0.3C at around half 12, the temp has dipped again to -0.8C.

That's still 5-6 hours after sunset - and with temps only around freezing it could easily be -2 or -3c by then. Cloud cover will warm it somewhat but I don't think by _that_ much. So it should fall as snow - hopefully!

If you run the rainfall radra and track it's progressw, it should hit Birmingham by about 10pm give or take.

Freezing rain is probably the most dangerous type of weather we could get, not to mention washing away the salt, let's hope it falls as snow, which it should do.

It went down to -6.6c here in Hinckley last night, the temps climbed to 2.2 and has just started to drop back. We have had clear blue skies all morning, it has in the last 1/2 hr begun to cloud up. I am not sure how big the cloud band is as I have very limited view of the horizon due to trees.

I have my fingers crossed for snow this evening, are the chances good or is it going to fizzle away to nothing before it gets to us?

Since I started typing the temp has dropped to 1.9c

Interesting to hear temps dropping back in the east of the region. Currently 0.2 here with a dp of -2.2 but temps still rising so potentially rainfall first I think. The band coming down getting much thinner so maybe just not enough precipitation to turn to snow later?

Damn band of snow looks a bit "wimpy" now, let's hope the pennines don't scrape a midlands shaped hole in it!! :nonono:

The canal has remained frozen all day, a couple of boats have just broken the ice, the noise was incredible. The hull of my boat amplifying it, it sounds like the ice is singing followed by loud cracks and bangs as the ice breaks.

So Telford get a snow shower and we get zilch, I hate it, it always happens. You watch tonight, it won't snow here but it will in most other places

It wasn't snow, it was graupel & soft hail, its dry again now.

Hopefully tonights weather front won't be rain, though temperatures are rising a bit to much for my liking..

Had a snow shower here about an hour ago, just enough to see tyre marks on the back roads, started as sleety drizzle, then some proper flakes.

yep I agree, could be another disappointment or maybe it will pep back up? Fingers crossed. Still cold enough for snow here but getting more marginal particularly since warm air seems to be associated with the precipitation?

Look at this, a tad pathetic

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/index.html

Click on 12:00, then 14:30, its already losing it's bulk. I'm really down about this, i hope im wrong

If you look at the model run earlier it did suggest it would pep up later.
