Happy New Year! It was snowing moderately at midnight here too but it's stopped now.

BTW some more organised snowfall is developing just off the coast in the form of showers merging together into a period of heavy snow, so a real dumping is possible from 2:00 onwards.

Happy New Year too you all.

Some beefy looking PPN to the North of us, hopefully there is some along that line which is out of reach on the radar so i can be certain we will see some heavy snowfall overnight.

Hopefully for next week, the winds can veer northerly/north easterly and give us some more good old snow showers.

Apparently there is meant to be some sort of trough at around 6AM according to FAX charts in the last few days? Is this still on the cards?

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all.

There are some real big showers developing now in the NE region. This is a cracking start to the year. My Dad phoned me at 9.10 from Morpeth, Northumberland saying a second lightining strike of three, had knocked the power off!!! Large Heavy hail too.

i am expecting some snowfall tonight...the sky has is now orange.....

I thought I was the only one still up! Just watching Bandit on TV.

You're right, looks like a long line of snow approaching which will last a while with further showers behind.

Got my blinds open waiting, hoping to see the odd flash of lightning too.

Not sure about the polar low as I have been shot down for mentioning them a few times on here, but heavy snow is about to hit here very soon. Its snowing here moderately adding to the 2cm covering so far...... I expect alot more judging by the radar... :bomb:

Yes you are right. It looks like smacking the Newcastle region in about 3 hours time. That would be the perfect start to the year.

Snowing here now moderate to heavy (and I know what heavy snow is!!!)

Its not letting up here, just getting heavier and heavier. The wind is now picking up and blowing the lying snow around. Certainly on the heavy side of moderate. If the flakes were larger it would be very heavy.... ITS HEADING YOUR WAY MATE :bomb:

Just the odd few flakes for the last 10 mins.

I see that as a good sign though, when it does get heavier it should stick around a while.

This is looking great and this is only the start of another few days of cold and snow!

Still moderate snow here, getting gradually heavier

Hopefully the curbs will be covered by morning, that's always a sign of a proper thick snowfall!

Plenty more to come too just seen the BBC weather forecast mention snow for us tomorrow and Saturday, the graphics looked very nice. Beyond that the charts look good so I think we're in for quite an amazing spell of weather :drunk:

What a way to start 2010!

Night!

EDIT: I think it can be described as heavy now.

It has been snowing on and off here all night and theres around 5-10cm on the ground.

There was still plenty of remnants of the snow and ice from the last time it snowed. This is the best cold spell here for a long time.

Happy New Year !!!

Snowing moderately here now, I think we may have the best snowfall of the cold spell judging by the radar.
