There is a mild sector coming down tonight. I hope it does not melt some of the snow away here.

Don't know if everyone has seen this from the Met Office...

Thought it was going to be dry until evening tomorrow so that's a bonus.

Imagine another 10cm on top of what we've got, amazing, plus we have next weeks potential.

when you back at work mark?

The strange thing is some people from nearby are reporting around 6cm, whilst others are reporting 12cm. I've got 11cm so people definitely aren't just exaggerating. Maybe there are large local variations.

In all fairness, i only measured in one spot and it is not the most exposed place i measured, i might go out and take another measurement shortly.

Some snow showers here still continuing and i am not worried by that very small mild sector, as 1, i don't think there be any PPN around when the mild sector is there. 2, the mild sector is during the night so i don't think temps will be all that affected especially as by that time, the flow will be coming in from the land and not the sea.

Monday, weather permitting of course!

When I left Consett on Christmas eve I remember thinking there will probably still be snow when I go back, that's certain now.

Could be some fun times getting about in Consett next week.

Looks like it won't last long though.

Had a few snow showers here this afternoon but the temps must be above freezing now as the snow is very slowly starting to thaw in places.

Not an obvious thaw however and i hope we can have cold night to compact this snow and firm it up.

I think that's it for a while in terms of falling snow, but it's been a fantastic morning with lots of lying snow! I have got my eyes on those showers off the coast of Scotland as they appear to be heading in the right direction. I think once this little low clears off the winds will become NNE judging by the direction the showers are moving on the radar.

We must be in a mild sector now. The temp has risen to 1.6c and there is light sleet.

Snow has become sleety and temp now 1.3C and dewpoint 0.9C at 14:04

How long will it take for this mild sector to go and get it back to snow!

Well! I must say im suprised how much snow we have, like TWS says 12cm! Very impressive! Melting slightly but showers plentiful to ensure thaw doesnt affect our totals! Hopefully lots more snow to come over the next few days! I will be happy with 12cm every night :D lol which means by the 5th well have 60cm of snow ! :yahoo:

Must say, the temps could be higher if the beeb forecasts were proven right, 3C whas forecast but temps are just above freezing.

Looking at the GFS upper air charts, it would appear the upper air was slightly colder this morning than they are now. The uppers do rise marginally as we go past midnight but as the flow is off shore, it should not affect the temp much and should remain below freezing. However once the easterly starts setting in, uppers drop quite a bit with the -10 upper just off shore by 12PM tomorrow.

This snow cover won't go anywhere fast at a temp of 1 or even 2C and if it freezes and compacts, then all the better.
