Heavy powder snow here in NE Essex, north of Colchester. Closing in on an inch since 6am.

Now make that heavy big fat flakes.

Nice streamer setting up just north of the Thames Estuary now and after a dry 6 hours the snow is lightly falling here in N Kent in Iwade.

I have a sneaky feeling these 2 features; the Wash and S East Anglia will expand and intensify as they only very slowly trundle southwards. I think Eastern Kent will hve its snow later today and especially tonight.

James

What a night. Measured 3cm to 7cm around different parts of Croydon. The ppn North of the Thames Estuary as you say is setting up as a streamer and joining the ppn band to the South which is coming up from the Channel.

Snowing here right now.

Concerned about that band over Colchester - looks like shifting south *SLOWLY* and affecting Clacton soon, what with the band coming down from the north it may be a fun drive home. Wondering whether it was a wise move to travel today...

Looks like another band is developing around Essex.

This was suggested by the NMM with the band over Essex remaining stationary and being joined by the band to the N. I might be wrong but I feel S parts of this region could do very well later.

I bloody hope so (excuse my french). I am just north of Chelmsford. Currently we have moderate snowfall with 10p sized flakes. Looks like some considerably heavier snow just to East and heading directly for us, probably when I take the children to school!!

I for one would like to say that the Meto have called this just about bang on and in a situation which is constantly evolving, they have done extremely well IMHO.

Their graphics illustrate the radar almost perfectly which is very seldom seen.

Not bad about 4 Inches on untouched areas

4cm here, yes - cm, just did the bin test. Rather disappointing - snowing hard at 4am but there were signs of melting on the car bonnets.

Grrrr snow in colchester?.......Just keep up the A14 just a few miles more please..........*cross fingers*

It's tantalislingly close to Ipswich really, Southern districts over and along the Orwell Bridge/A14 should be getting something light now.

To those in Colchester/south Suffolk, big breath now and blow north...Please

After going up town for food and walking around a bit, the snow is deeper then I thought it was and it has been really heavy snow with large flakes for around 30 mins, this is really adding to the snow and is settling on the roads a lot.

Suprised that we are getting this heavy stuff!

Well that's confusing! Herts website says senior school closed, primary school open. 3CR radio just announced primary school closed without mentioning senior school!!!

Just rang primary school who say its definitely open!

Why does the TeleWeer site show the showers going in a south easterly direction?

James,

As you say that Thames streamer looks a beauty feeding in those heavy snow showers to Kent and essex areas and merging with the system to the south, this could have the potential to produce an awful lot of snow.

Looks as though we had a fair dusting overnight, but I think continuous snowfall for this part of the country. Brave souls venturing out in their vehicles could face a very difficult drive home as that is when the snow looks likely to intensify.....?
