Paddy Power going 12/1 on the Uk coldest temp of -27.2 being beaten

Any takers?

No, I don't think it will be broken to be honest. Nor do they by the sounds of it

I don't envisage the record low being beaten, but, I think lots of areas may get record minima tonight alone. The Wirral is looking good for a modern day record. Mr Prudence, could you be prudent, (cough) enough to let me know what the recent record is for the Wirral, being a Moreton lad myself...

Finally reached -11c here. I had hopes of Altnaharra breaking -20c tonight but the temperature there has risen 0.1c in the last hour from -17.2c to -17.1c.

Yeah-I was thinking that-bit of fog rolling in, bit of ice on the sensors.

Probably find that -20 will be achieved tonight, though the -27 a long way off. Possibly -21/22 achieved...?

Whatever happens, I have to say, for the lovely people like ourselves, the snow/cold/heat/extreme lovers, this really has, and will be, a record breaking spell of inclement weather.

Long may it continue!drunk.gif

dunno-can't see that on the met site.

Paddy Power is also going 5/1 temps to reach +ive double figures in January (so +10c would win)

It's due to the breeze, it will soon plummet again, as will mine. :)

Really varied actually, and there are some records that you wouldn't expect.

The coldest minimum ever recorded in the Wirral peninsula, (metropolitan, not the Wirral hundred, which goes to Chester), is -14C in Bidston in 1987.

The coldest minimum ever recorded here in Heswall is -10.2C in 1981/82 winter.

I imagine the coldest ever recorded in Moreton is typicall -9 or -10C.

Hilbre Island, -8C I think.

Interestingly last night it fell to -6.5C here which is the lowest record since 1995 or 1981 I believe, I'm not sure I'll have to mull over that one again.

Right now it's -5.7C here, it's cold, but not very bad.

Bebington is very mild place it seems only -4C there at the moment.

Moreton is around -5.3C

Some cloud has appeared to my east, towards the Pennines. I expect the temperature in Manchester to rise a little in the next half an hour.

Karyo

Yes definatley some cloud about now, temp has risen to -8.3C here in quite a short space of time, infact -7.9C now.

The showers to the North East might give us a few flurries later on. They are appearing lower down the East coast and coming with a more easterly element, so they have less land to treck accross. The Pennines will knock them on the head a bit more, but still could give a little covering especially to area's closer to the east.

Temperature is really really plummeting now, the wind has died down, hmm I'm actually pretty confident this time for -10C because the wind has just died. The cloud and shower aren't due in for another 3-4 hours so it's going to be a record breaker!

Just recorded my minimum of -8.8c a drop from 12 hours ago of 10c. Hoping to reach -10c tonight - when I pulled up about 20 mins ago not a cloud in site.

-9.2c now and I'm off to bed. Night all :)
