currently -9'c in Bacup.

went down to -12'c in the early hours of this morning - climbed to approx -7.5'c by around 5am then dropped like a stone again to read -10'c at 7am.

highest reached today was around -5'c although at work so couldn't be 100% sure.

one thing i did come across at work today was diesel freezing (waxing) in vehicles.

saw it a couple of times during 1979 and the early 1980's winters but never in recent years.

absolute pain when it happens.

in days when vehicles were mainly made of metal without lots of plastic i've seen fires lit under engines to prevent this from happening.

The lowest so far this winter has been -8.4c which was recorded last week (it also equalled my previous lowest recorded about 4 yrs ago) , last night got to -8.1c , i did think it would be lower ...currently it's-8.3c ... i'm on tenterhooks :cold: :cold:..surely it must get lower

-8.9c :cc_confused::whistling: get in there :nonono::clap: , the record (ALBEIT THE LAST 5YR RECORD) has been shattered and it's still only 22.00hrs

-6 at Blackpool Airport, 2nd night in a row & could go lower - can't believe it here on the coast. Prob more to come too. A bit greedy, but I hope I'll get some more snow at some point. Looks like those in the east/s-e will get plenty.

I work in hulme, but if its -11 I'd be really surprised, it hasnt felt that cold really.

Hi Ben,

the temp at my neighbours' garden was -11 @ 7pm this eve - by the water....it didn't rise above -5 today. Hulme is a weird little climate - more thermal than here, we're pretty exposed.

seems a little confusing - metcheck now says hulme is -4, woodford -8, yet other temps being recorded elsewhere on other websites which have stations in the same areas...oh well. its cold. :wallbash:

lamp post/radar watch later ....

Am I being a novice in thinking that we have any chance of that band of snow reaching Merseyside tonight?

Quite High.

Has anyone seen the temperature across the Merseyside area (Liverpool Bay), -7C in Crosby!! (maybe close to a record there), -6C in Prestatyn, -6C in Blackpool and -5C in Liverpool.

Its only -1C on Hilbre Island.

Says -14c here. Must be dry air though, because there's only a slight frost on the cars. Temps will probably rise a little when the cloud cover increases through the night.

Edit: Changed back to -13c - Manchester at -10c.

It seems that in order for the temp to drop, it must rise a little first - Back down to -5.8c now and going into record breaking grounds.

Anyone know a website that shows me the record low temperatures for my location?

Looking at the forecast on the BBC now, it looks like Greater Manchester is the frost hollow of the UK for tonight....

thats usually the case, it's dropped here quite a bit too after a rise, whether it keeps falling without another rise is another thing.

I imagine the record temperature for your are would be around -12 to -15C
