I thought the light of the eruption was reflecting off whatever it was rather than it being it's own light.

Here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auxbJWK_VGc

That said 30th march under the video and also tonights lights were more of a streak flying around.

I have just noticed that CF, I played the video without checking the date, looks similar to me.

You know I think somebody is having a laugh with a model airplane, nippers eh.

Think ill hit the sack for tonight.

Fresh snow fall overnight - all kis white again above a certain height.

Thanks LP, I have viewed it a few times again now but still can't work out what it could be. Not a natural phenomona anyway to make a sharp turn like that.

I think it is a helicopter, and if so, the person who was flying it is probably laughing their socks off right now lol

//

I think I read somewhere that some of the lights were car headlamps because there are a lot of trippers going up. But not the ones we've seen tonight which were the same colour as the flames...

I have seen this on videos before, the lens of the camera picks up light from an angle from headlights out of the shot, and makes it appear that lights are floating about the subject of the pic/vid.

Added:

There are some instances recorded of "earth lights", especially in tectonically active areas, most notably Norway/Sweden, where the piezoelectric effect of quartz containing rocks create "sparks" similar to a cigarette lighter. Tests in a lab show that rocks under compression can produce orb like lights which float and hover.

I think those lights may have been in the ash cloud. Ball lightening anyone ???

Anyway talking about ash and ice and lava. Yes it's quite possible for lava to bury a snowfield. This happened on Etna and the snow wasn't all melted just trapped under the rock.

Some nice new now for the ash to cover up I see I see the plumes going well this morning as is the tremor.

Well I have had time to think about this UFO, its one of two things IMO.

1. Somebody having a laugh with a good model aircraft.

2. Strange phenomena similar to ball lightning.

I don't think it is anybody in a plane or helicopter. When it was near the vent, it was too close. One would risk a model, but not the real thing.

Surly they keep records of take offs and landings at local airstrips. I would have thought the person flying would loose his/her license. Thats why I think it was not a plane.

I don't think it was aliens, don't want it to be either, long before Stephen Hawkings said about the dangers of Aliens, I and no doubt others thought its wise not not to go looking for them, because, putting it plainly they will strip us of our assets or eat us or both. Just like nature on our planet, full of predators. There will be nice ones too of course, just like nature here.

The volcano is still entertaining, I love it.

http://www.vodafone.is/eldgos The old webcam is back. Best to move the minute cursor back a couple of minutes and manually refresh, its under strain poor thing.

Regards,

Russ

Thanks for that, LadyPakal. The thing seems to come from right of the crater, not out of the hole itself so could it be some sort of meterologist's testing equipment - to measure gasses or temp? OTOH, I should have thought it was travelling too fast to be remote-controlled. I still can't decide whether the light is reflected or not - if it were, then how come it bunches up and becomes curved as it turns?

Very puzzled, me.

The steam is right at the bottom of the glacier now, I wonder what happens next?

There seems to be a lull in the earthquakes since yesterdays rush.

Expect the unexpected lol

Earth lights seems a popular guess - not uncommon when earthquakes/volcanoes etc happen.

I think it will be something quite natural along those lines LP.

The Mulakot cam now has steam coming from the cliffs to the left, interesting.

Did anybody see the video of the pressure waves in the sky above the volcano a couple of days ago? I am trying to find the clip, if anybody knows where it is I would be grateful.

Russ

The steam on Mulakot cam may be that from the glacier on the Vodafone cam.

I did post a link somewhere in one of these threads. I've only been posting here recently so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

This it? http://http.ruv.straumar.is/static.ruv.is/vefur/20042010_myndir_omar.wmv

I suppose they are formed in a similar way to those seen in the ash cloud coming out of the caldera (the link I posted). Same sort of thing you see when something (jet or whatever) breaks the sound barrier.

In some way i think the pressure waves and the unidentified thing last night are connected.

I have never seen pressure waves like on the link I posted before.

I think that it is the intensity of those waves that created electromagnetically the object we saw last night. A bit like ball lightning.

As it is intense this phenomena I would hazard a guess and say that this eruption is only the start of something bigger.

I may well be totally wrong, but thats what I think.

Russ.

There is talk of a new fissure under the glacier.

The virtical tremors are up today aswell

http://www.themarknews.com/articles/1392-volcanic-disruption

An interesting article suggesting the ash from EJ contained less glass and more rock fragments than was first thought.

So more erosion damage to engines and surfaces less glass build up, mmm.

If anything the tremors are up the activity seems less on the webcams LP. Just like the weather and the models!

Russ

Update regarding the UFO from Eruptions blog

Quote:-

501

I asked around and there were a few small planes flying over Eyjafjallajökull last night, sightseeing. No helicopters though, because of the ash situation.

There are no restrictions on flying anymore.

I like the note about someone finding an uncut pink diamond in the ash fall. That would be nice....

Russ

Kinda logical really - tremors increase as pressure builds up maybe due to a temporary blockage, pressure releases, activity increases & tremors drop.

I agree LP quite logical, glad you pointed this out.

Earthquake under the Mýrdalsjökull glacier Mag 1.5 Depth 1.3 km Thats Katla and that is shallow.

Probably nothing, but you never know.

Looking here: http://eldgos.mila.is/eyjafjallajokull-fra-fimmvorduhalsi/, I think the reason the tremors have died down a bit is because there is a new vent or collapsed area at the top - see the white blob? Steam seems to be coming out of this circular(ish) area. Could be a bit of the glacier has caved in after being melted from below.

I think you are right, that glacier must be weak in places.

Clearer view of the steam blob here http://www.vodafone.is/eldgos

The water from the steam blob in the picture has smelly gas with it. Here is the quite funny translation lol http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=is&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mbl.is%2Fmm%2Ffrettir%2Finnlent%2F2010%2F04%2F28%2Fgas_fylgir_vatninu_ur_gigjokli%2F

ESK tremors really climbing again now.

http://hraun.vedur.i...todvaplott.html

Does the steam at the top of the glacier appear to be showing ash as well now? The left side on this webcam definitely looks darker than the right.
