The rain is intensifying by the look of the Met Office radar so some fun and games is possible, i think it will be more of a talking point than any thunder/lightning itself but wee shall see.

Was recording for a while but lightning and thunder are very infrequent so I've stopped recording for now. Not sure where that flash of lightning to my SW came from, nothing notable showing up on radar. The rumbles of thunder to my south-east though sounded pretty nasty, so would've thought there had been some nice bolts in that cell (now to the east of Birmingham) for a time.

Conditions for thunderstorms are certainly favourable this evening- warm, moist boundary layer under cold air aloft. Wouldn't be surprised if somewhere within the risk area got a good thunderstorm.

Suppose to get nasty TS later :wallbash:

Quickly looking at the radar, it should be starting to rain Bedworth in about the next 5 - 10 minutes, with a clump of precipitation just to the West.

Just seen the weather forcast on the BBC, looking very good for us in the home counties tonight. Mention of really strong storms. Not really been paying attention since friday when the risk was negligable. Anyone explain whats changed since then? GFS indication of minimal uplift and MLCAPE after sundown :wallbash:

Rain is so heavy here! Can hear it rumbling on the roof! High Street will be flooded soon because the drain can't cope with this much rain!

Isle of Wight Radar not showing anything either. More likely you're hearing jet aircraft or distant mobile disco's which do confuse things.

Steady rain here right now.

I don't think so. Main action is for Midlands southwards with Gloucester eastwards to chilterns the best bet for later. Craigers: our best hope is for this massive area of heavy rain to give us some thunder during the next couple of hours.

Either way it is gonna pour here very soon. Could be flash flooding I think, it is a very large area of very heavy rain, electrified or not it is interesting!

NMM still going for yorkshire with the most intense rainfall

That must be our area of heavy rain. NMM thinks it will keep it's high intensity through this evening which is good. We can only hope to get some thunder out of it!

Very heavy according to some of the dark green blobs showing on Netweather's precipitation radar, which is showing to the West of the area.

That heavy band is also spreading up to Yorkshire also...

But Miss Willetts is going for the Midlands and Home counties......Must be the Irish showers which are going to ignite.
