Looking at the NW forecast there is a fair chance of a storm here on 5 out of the next 6 days. After a quiet summer so far bar Saturday, just wondering what it is about the current setup that is so conducive for storms and how likely is this to continue?

Looks like the North West have a chance tomorrow with a CAPE approaching 900 and a -3 lift index? I'd say the conditions are great?

My thunder news from the weekend: (Sorry it's late)

I was staying in Milton Keynes on Saturday night, at around 7:30pm dark clouds started rolling in over in the distance and flashes appeared soon after this, several rumbles of thunder followed before more lightning in the distance including several ground strikes, this storm avoided us by a small distance, it went through what looked like central Milton Keynes, while we were on the edge of the City near the MK Dons stadium. It was very slow moving and it rumbled away till at least 9:30/10pm, lightning could be seen for this amount of time along with thunder, it was a good storm to see, but a shame it didn't pass right over us.

There were also several other thundery showers on Saturday in MK, with very heavy rain and thunder. A good day!

Also, on BBC 3 Counties, they are reporting there was a mini-tornado in Hertfordshire on Saturday. http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/threecounties/hi/people_and_places/newsid_8918000/8918168.stm I wouldn't call that a tornado.

Below are a couple of links from this site: http://www.theweatherprediction.com/

Convective Inhibition (CINH)

Capping Layer

Basically, CINH is the opposite of CAPE - it represents a stable layer in the atmosphere which prevent lifting of air parcels from the boundary (surface) layer. Rather than air parcels rising, they are instead sinking once they reach this stable layer. It's measured in the same way as CAPE (j/kg) and so the lower the figure, the stronger the CINH or "cap".

Thanks mate much appreciated :)

yay!!! gratz on first post!! Welcome to the forum and just you wait until winter....queing to post...it's really on fire in here :)

Me and my sis were shopping in Brum at about 3.20pm earlier and we saw that monster coming and decided to head back to the train to Nuneaton.

We got there ok, but by the time the train had got to Nuneaton station at 4pmish, the cloud had followed us and became a monster, which on my car journey back to Bedworth had left some of the roads flooded under 4-6" of water!!

It passed pretty quickly, but the cloudburst was something to behold.

(p.s. there was no electrical activity at that stage)

No need to find your feet sir.

Anyway, I'm hanging out of my window hoping to catch a rumble or two this evening.

Is anyone in Mid-Essex getting anything at the moment?

Rest assured there are no feet to find on here as all views are welcome and valid :)

Just make sure that you are never afriad to post stuff, so long as it's not inappropriate or rude.

some of the folk on here are very technicle in their posts but they are not always right, neither are us less technically minded.

a love of weather is all you need to post here and I'm sure all of us will enjoy reading your post and seeing you photos for many years to come :)

really good photos there matey, it really was a narrow band wasn't it? but so slow moving...I'm sure I saw some circulation from it at one point?

as it is now, judging by the radar, it's holding it's intensity.

Yeah it came over in two waves, the first was really narrow as seen in the pic then then it went pretty dark and hammerd it down for about an hour!
