But that Storm viewed from the west at 615pm from Blackfriars Bridge was some of the best Cb development I have seen in this country in 2010, even had a slight overshooting top at one point - Just gutted I did not have my camera with me as it looked very impressive lurking behind the Gherkin and Natwest Tower and made those structures look like little toys in the foreground.

Thanks Andy

Looks like it will be quite a convective day for Ireland and parts of Nern UK tomorrow, as deep upper trough and its associated cold upper air swings in from the west and steepens lapse rates here. Upper winds look to fall light under the trough axis though above the areas of highest instability developing ... so wind shear looks weak, but heavy showers and thunderstorms which develop could be slow-moving with flash flooding perhaps the main risk, with hail and gusty winds possible too.

Typical, always missing the funnel cloud action in Norfok! Where abouts was it do you know? Im guessing down the A11 somewhere? Thought it was a little patchy and a bit of a disappointment in the end seeings that temps on the ground were hot. there were nice cu clouds dotted about and it looked nice the contrast of sun and grey clouds with lit up towers. Most I saw was moderate rain and a cute (if you can call it cute) little anvil coming back from Swaffham to Norwich. Apart from that I expected more. Even noted the cloud bases being quite high so it squashed the towers further.

Hi, I first noticed it along the A1065 heading down to Swaffham, along the A47 and then onto the A1122 heading south. (Where I was travelling) At one point on the A1065 it passed directly overhead. I could guess it was heading slowly Eastwards but I must admit I'm not that totally sure! Was in view for a good 15-20 minutes between (ish!) 4:00:4:20pm. :p

Thanks for the compliment Andy Bown and Weather09! :(

Just plain old rain I'm afraid. Chance of weak thunderstorms reserved for northern UK tomorrow - particularly northern and eastern Ireland and over into Scotland where the coldest upper air will be. Could be some decent size hail in any stronger cells that can develop over those regions tomorrow.

Thanks W09

Informative as ever

I'll put my camera away then:good:

What a bugger! I must have just missed it I reckon. I'm sure we left Swaffham before that time! I still only have 1 day of funnel cloud spots in my whole life so far! 1 When I was in Peterborough at the verticle going to horizontal stage and then another in the distance south of me when passing over the hardwick roundabout on the way home on the same day. Also saw another strange phenomina that day too. The atmosphere seemed to have that kind of conditioning (rotating). Passed a little low level cloud that shot a couple of rotating shoots from it, the weird thing about that was that it was not connected to any storm clouds in fact there were none about at that time. The cloud was of a browny grey colour. Kind of strange that.

About time I had a better and newer sighting!

Thanks for sharing though :nonono:

Convective showers passed through earlier dropped around 5mm in 20 mins with about 10 mins of quite heavy rain, sun back out again temps on the rise, feeling quite humid out. CAPE values look half decent so hoping a storm or two passes through later this afternoon.

Nothing more than a few sferics scattered across the North today. Nothing major, as expected.

Scotland looks interesting today (that should make Stuart happy!) but those tornado possibility charts are also showing little areas across the UK for potential - what do we think?

Yes a very defined squall line on the Cold Front, but with lighter rain behind it which is rare. Usually

the heaviest rain is immediately before the clearance.
