Been out for a quick walk and mostly sunny in Sussex with a few thundery clouds to the North. Not expecting anything but the way things are this year - it's anyone's guess!

We have a warning now from the MetO

I'm hoping that one over London comes this way otherwise I'm gonna miss the other two!

The ones over london way are currently much less intense than that over canterbury

Some nice returns on radar from the cell/s moving over Hythe currently and headed towards Folkestone - perhaps some hail being thrown into the mix down there. Nice looking line on the whole.

Nice thunderstorm here but no hail though, not much lightning, just a couple of flashes and rumbles, but a whole lengthy deluge of rain for a good 5 - 10 minutes, gutters overflowing etc.

Had a nice deep rumble of thunder here in W. Sussex about an hour ago, plus the heaviest rain of the summer! Unexpected but nice, and brings the total storms (if you can call it that) here to a healthy... 1!

Bad times.

Wondering if conditions were conducive to funnel clouds? Here's a couple of photos which appear to show a funnel cloud

Sorry for the poor quality. I took these when heading home from Norfolk. These pictures were taken in Norfolk at around 4:15-4:30pm.

Just had a weak thunderstorm- but a thunderstorm nonetheless- in the Norwich area at 5-6pm, with several rumbles of thunder, and some spectacular cloud effects due to the small size of the clouds and close proximity of sun and rain.

Typical, always missing the funnel cloud action in Norfok! Where abouts was it do you know? Im guessing down the A11 somewhere? Thought it was a little patchy and a bit of a disappointment in the end seeings that temps on the ground were hot. there were nice cu clouds dotted about and it looked nice the contrast of sun and grey clouds with lit up towers. Most I saw was moderate rain and a cute (if you can call it cute) little anvil coming back from Swaffham to Norwich. Apart from that I expected more. Even noted the cloud bases being quite high so it squashed the towers further.

Anyone know why the conditions caused those showers to form from nothing about 19.30 onwards and only over these areas?

If you're referring to the storm that moved over Thanet yesterday evening, then the shower first developed over Thurrock (Essex) and intensified as it moved along the Thames Estuary. Just like yesterday lunchtime when I watched the cell develop just to the south of Maidstone, this shower over the Thames also set off further showers in a line ahead of it, originating from Sheppey. It seams they weakened significantly upon landfall (Whitstable), and had all but fizzled out by the time they reached the east Kent coast (Ramsgate).

At the time the CAPE was virtually negligible and the Lifted Index a nasty +4, which probably had a significant affect on their death.
