lots to be happy about this morning with a huge wodge of new snow leaping westward throughout the whole of siberia!!! hope this is just the strt of it's recovery! :yahoo::drunk:

I told you :) and what is great aswell although ice has been below average the places where ice has formed is different to many years it has a barder certain pack even though places in canada still have'nt frozen over compared to recent years, therefore don't always go by statistics their misleading.

Hi Folks

Its looking for next week over central Europe, wintery weather has taken a firm grip in Scandinavia now, and temps are pretty low saw minus -20s in Lapland this week, Eastern Europe looks like it will join in over the coming days and even western France looks like getting wide spread snow on Tuesday :-)

a link to my favourite Lappish web cam in Levi, Finland to keep us going :-)

Here is a picture from last week flying back from Japan. Taken directly over the most northern part of Siberia at exactly Mid-day. You can just make out the sun breaking over the horizon highlighting a frozen river but not much else. Not a place you'd want to be left for long!

That must be pretty amazing!

It would, though it looks as if Moscow is going to beat us to it:

That did seem very surprising, to say the least... must have been some dust on the satellite lens... no doubt it will have "thawed" by the next day's photo.

I think by the start of next week europe will be looking a lot whiter indeed

I didn't see that...there's a white strip across lowland Germany.

It's not quite lowland, sort of Black forest and East towards Bavaria. I can confirm the snow, arrived in Stuttgart yesterday to be told that it was a wintry mix. Where I'm working is at about 450m asl, and there's snow all the way down to ground level. Hills (up to 750m asl) look really good

There is some further east as well by the look of that map, and the forecast on the TV this morning said that the weather would be schlecht (bad) all week

Anyone notice how much more snow USA has compared to last year!? :cc_confused:

It's basically the same but in a totaly different area , gives the impression of more. However what i have noticed is the ice is more noticable this year

You must be looking at a different map to the one i'm looking at.... there's definately more ice last year than this.
