quite odd that the snowline seems to be so straight

It looks to me like the snow pretty much follows the high ground of the Ural mountains which run straight down that part of the country.

Ill be flying right over the top of that Russian snow pack in about 12 hrs as I come back from Japan. I'll make sure I get a few picks to see if it's all good healthy snow!

I misinterpreted your post. I thought you were talking about the line that runs vertically down Russia which has recently appeared.

I meant to mention that October came in above average for NH snow cover according to Rutgers.

In fact it was ranked 15th out of 43 so I think this is encouraging.

This will almost certainly change and it will be a much different picture by sunday/monday over Scandinavia, Canada and yes Scotland we will get the pixel back

bit happier this morning as we have rather a few gains namely at out end of siberia and canada!!

but as you can see by the anomoly map, we are a fair bit down on what we should be!
