It looks to me like the snow pretty much follows the high ground of the Ural mountains which run straight down that part of the country.

can't say I see any particular topographical feature that explains it..

Ill be flying right over the top of that Russian snow pack in about 12 hrs as I come back from Japan. I'll make sure I get a few picks to see if it's all good healthy snow!

OK????!! seriously? there is a huge hole just opened up in the eastern siberian snow pack and meltback all over the shop WHAT'S GOING ON?

There less snow now than in the middle of october almost.

There less snow now than in the middle of october almost.

Surprising considering its about -10 there.... hey ho, there is some snow forecast for the end of next week

Expect to see more melt across Canada as record high tempretaures sweep north right up into the artic circle..some areas will be +15c or more above nromal.

I meant to mention that October came in above average for NH snow cover according to Rutgers.

In fact it was ranked 15th out of 43 so I think this is encouraging.

Expect some further big gains over Scandanavia and NW Russia in the coming week and also Alpine regions. Suspect there will be a small pixel over scottish highlands on Monday.

I supect there will be hill snow in Wales tonight it may warrant a pixel over Snowdonia if it persists.

bit happier this morning as we have rather a few gains namely at out end of siberia and canada!!
