Wind starting to pick up here now, currently gusting to 30kts. We also have a guest outside in the Bay! A rig standby vessel, Far Service, has taken shelter.

FORECAST FOR NEXT THREE DAYS

Confidence level: Weather type – medium/high. Timing – medium.

Mild today with a daytime temperature rising to 10° or 11° Celsius. Tonight down to 5° Celsius. Colder on Friday, with a high of 7° Celsius and an overnight low of about 4° Celsius. Milder again on Saturday with temperatures up to 10° Celsius.

THURSDAY 24th: Outbreaks of rain this morning will become persistent and heavier through the afternoon as F5 SE’ly winds steadily strengthen, reaching gale F8 after dark. Later in the evening winds – increasing severe gale F9, with gusts of 60 to 70 miles per hour – will veer SW’ly as the rain clears to heavy, squally showers. During the early hours these are likely to be prolonged and of hail and sleet with the chance of thunder.

Sea state – Increasing rough, with a 3 to 4 metre S’ly wind-swell. Later in the evening turning SW to W’ly and increasing very rough to high, with a 4 to 6 metre wind-swell.

FRIDAY 25th: Cold and very windy, with W’ly gale F8 to severe gale F9 winds, perhaps even storm F10 at times during the morning. Gusts of 55 to 65 miles per hour are likely and even high across the more exposed parts. Bright with frequent heavy squally showers, of rain, hail and snow with the risk of thunder. Gales slowly moderating later, and the showers becoming less frequent tonight.

Sea state – High or very high in the west, with a 6 to 8 metre W’ly wind-swell. Rough or very rough in the east, with a 4 to 5 metre W’ly wind-swell.

SATURDAY 26th: Strong to gale-force winds backing SW to S’ly by morning. A cloudy day with rain and SW gale or severe gale-force winds developing. Rain clearing to squally showers later. Possibly stormy conditions with hail and thunder developing overnight as winds veer W’ly and later NW’ly. There is the potential for damaging gusts during this event.

Sea state – Very rough to high in the west, with a 5 to 6 metre SW’ly wind-swell. Rough in the east, with a 3 to 4 metre SW’ly wind-swell

Currently gusting to 60mph here. K5 buoy reporting average wind speed as 45mph and gusts will probably be in the 60 or 70mph range.

Faroe island weather stations wind hasn't changed to much only a 2mph increase in the last 2 hours currently 37mph.

It will do, the storm is heading towards that area, still not past the buoy around 59N, falling 10.9mb but can't be long before it does, 18 foot swell from about 6 earlier this morning.

Looking bad up your way Cookie stay safe.

Belmullet the West coast of Ireland has a top gust of 74mph. The K5 buoy now reporting an average wind speed of 49mph so gusts will probably be in the 70mph range and the wave height is now 22ft.

Faroe island weather station has gone down to 32mph but it won't be until 6pm when we see proper high winds hit that area.

Cairngorms now seeing over 100mph in the past 2 hours, as Aonach Moor respectively. The xcweather map shows the windspeeds well, with areas surrounding the Irish Sea and Atlantic seaboard now beginning to bear the height of the storm.

It really is looking wild for you guys in the North tonight!

A shame though that as usual we down South allways miss out on the more interesting weather. I am only getting Light Air to Light breeze at the moment, which is anywhere from 1mph to 7mph on my weather station.

Starting to blow a bit up here now, gusting to 44kts (48mph), 10 min Avg is 38 kts (42mph) I expect the worst during the early hours. Just been outside and made sure nothing can blow around lol.

Correction to the above, we've just hit 50kts (55mph) :)
