Wind is certainly starting to pick up here

Edinburgh Airport (EGPH) forecasting this

"Wind 33 kt from west/southwest with gusts up to 58 kt " http://en.allmetsat....d.php?icao=EGPH

58 Knots comes out at about 67mph! :o

Pressure here is 996.3mb and falling rapidly

Very windy in the city center today! I got blown over on North Bridge. Literally picked up and blown right over. I'm not coming back out my flat today.

Only cars getting across the Tay bridge now. Gust to 67mph a couple of minutes ago. Might be higher at the bridge where it is more exposed.

edit. 72mph gust now.

edit again. 74mph now.

Getting serious now. Last gust 80mph. Bridge will close altogether is they get the same.

Forth Road Bridge shut to everything but cars now. Erskine Bridge has restrictions on it. My mums just called me from Helensburgh to say that it is bad over there, the main street in to town (Sinclair Street) is shut both ways because of fallen trees and that the primary school nearby has been shut because of the danger of falling trees. All ferries are cancelled on the Clyde, train lines between Wemyss Bay and Port Glasgow are closed due to torn over head power cables, line between Lanark and Glasgow Central are closed due to fallen trees blocking the line. Helensburgh & Balloch to Glasgow lines are also shut due to over head power cables being damaged. Not a good day to try and get anywhere. Everything through Partick, so anything on the North Clyde lines is shut due to problems with the cables at Partick. Really bad day to go anywhere.

Most places in Central/Southern Scotland at 50-60mph now , just insane :o

Wind has been battering the side of the house here for the last 2 hours and doesnt look like stopping anytime soon

Wild afternoon in store , stay safe all :)

Edit : Lorry has overturned on the M9 between J1 and J2 , no doubt wind related.

this is getting very serious , i think a few trees (espicially the smaller ones) are going to be down here soon

Wind here is about Force 6-7 , sometimes Force 8 , no damage so far.

As of 14 BST , the low is centered just slightly west of the western isles , http://meteocentre.c...〈=en&map=UK

Recent obs from Edinburgh Uni weather station which from personal knowledge of having to go out and change the power cells is in a very sheltered location so the wind speeds are always blow what they should be. But even then its impressive. Been a long time since I've seen it top 22m/s

Just looked at Northeast England's regional forecast and they say the wind speed will increase during the afternoon - cumbrian fells could top 100mph this afternoon they say with the rest of the region 70mph gusts..
