Potential for 80 kt gusts with this, in exposed parts of Ireland and western Scotland. Later on, would watch for local lee wave effects in northeast England and some isolated gusts to 65 knots there. I don't think this will affect southern regions too badly but central parts of Ireland, Wales and later central to northwest England need to watch for tornadic wind streaks in squally showers post-frontal.

Will predict max wind gust of 84 kts at South Uist and see how that works out.

Yeah, just seen that, Sean. There will certainly be some damage around the country with these wind speeds. There are already bits of branches scattered along the roads around here, and it's not really got going properly yet.

Wind picking up now, I am at work just west of Newcastle and it's definately becoming more gusty. I wonder how strong the wind will become in these parts. Seems like some impressive wind gusts further north and west so far for May anyway!

Wind is certainly starting to pick up here

Edinburgh Airport (EGPH) forecasting this

"Wind 33 kt from west/southwest with gusts up to 58 kt " http://en.allmetsat.com/metar-taf/united-kingdom-ireland.php?icao=EGPH

58 Knots comes out at about 67mph! :o

Pressure here is 996.3mb and falling rapidly

As always with these things the region to look out for is the southern flank around the low's core. Correlating xcweather with sat24 it seems with system may have shifted south somewhat of the progged models, so areas further south still may get higher gusts than origionally forecasted. Western facing coasts of Ireland, Wales and Scotland already exposed to winds in excess of 70mph.
