Several posts on about supercells - can I make it clear a big storm is not a supercell. The storm in N France is developing into an MCS, it may have supercellular attributes within it but just because it is big doesn't make it a supercell. Also it is nowhere near as big as it looks from satelite / IR as the cloud tops spread out rapidly but the core is much smaller

Hey weather is that you?, did you have a username change?.... Anytime someone even talks about a supercell said member jumps down their throats!.

It is very round though - mcs are usually more 'random'. That's potentially very bad news for SE England - is that the system which was supposed to be further west?

Can I call it a bust now?

There isn't much heat left & nothing much is going on radar or satellite wise apart from the biscay stuff which will probably hit kent

Temp 20.3

dew point 14.7

70% humidity

Some act as though they don't occur in Europe, whilst Belgium gets 1-2 every year.

I do not thinkthose storms over the bay of biscay will even hit kent, why is the bay such a thunderstorm breeding ground? :cc_confused:

Heading home now from the South Coast. There's still time for it to kick off overnight, and as I have the day off work tomorrow, I'm staying up and keeping positive :)

Be patient people, this is going to be a very interesting evening, its only just starting to cook up now, and the number one rule of storm chasing is applied here, BE PATIENT. Storms are devloping the atmosphere is very active for sure. All the signs are in place. I have been sitting outside with my laptop its still reading 28C and its 09.43, a brandy at hand and its perfection.

I've not changed my name ??

Supercells occur reasonably regularly in Europe and occasionally in the UK but they are quite tightly defined in their structure. They are not just big nasty storms

Watching the sat loop suggests AT BEST a touch on the kent coast.

Watching the overall trend I would say it's a french night tonight.
