Yes, it's been very cold lately in the Balkans, Greece and western Turkey. The temperature is way below the average for October and mountains have received a nice covering of snow!

Yes, it's snowing in Edirne, Western Turkey, 50 meters (164 foot)!!!

One thing I like about the current images compaired with this time last year is how there is more snow over iceland and Norway compaired to this time last year. Also the Ice is futher south down the coast of greenland towards Iceland compaired to last year.

Thats got to be a good sign of colder weather being closer to us and ealier this year.........

Nice to see the first white pixels over scotland on the latest image (18th)! And a blob in east Bulgaria smile.png

Wow! Impressive snow in Bulgaria for so early in the season. Pity the mild flow over the next few days will melt it all apart from the mountain tops.

Greece also had early snow in the mountains.

Thankfully these images are updating regularly again, albeit still 2 days or so behind.

Morning all!

I think we have finally caught up with the snowcover now, with the negatives and positive anomolies looking balaced.

Let's just hope we can blitz the board with positives from now on :)

Snow and ice looking good. What will be interesting is learning about the ways the snow and ice develop year on year.

I wonder what it was for 2008 or even a few more years back,19/10/whatever.

A comparison between 2007, the record sea ice minimum year, and this year.
