I had hoped that the UK might have shown its first white pixel over Cairngorm today, but no joy.

Ever the optimist!

Oh my goodness - look at the ICEHOTEL link now please! Kiruna airport reporting 0c and heavy snow. I call the first Lapland snow of the season, right on time, or even earlier than usual.

Seems to be some gains with no huge losses today.

Can anyone else see a second United Kingdom in this chart? Look at how the snow is shaped! :o :D

Hello John,

Lovely warm Autumns Day with temperature around 12 C. Wind picking though ahead of cold front expected to move through in the next 24 hours and to deposit a good covering of snow. Temperature of 0C expected in the village this time tomorrow and -4C on the summit top above the village. The recent

exceptional late summer temps back in England made the news in Austria !

Morning all,

Snowfall arrived on time. 20cm covering and still snowing. Temperature drop of 15C in 24 hours.

Great to hear of all the snow falling in Scandi and The Alps, I think we'll be seeing a significant increase in whiteness on the map in the next couple of days!

Regarding Scandi snow - after British snow - my favourite type... dew points and uppers have rose throughout the day and it's turned predominantly to rain - not to worry though as dew points and uppers fall again tonight and should stay snow-suitable in the major areas until Monday morning at the least. The lack of precip. is the only worry.

Hopefully the snow pack will form soon in northern Scandi, shouldn't be too long now.

I'm not sure, but it's near the Stelvio pass in Italy.

That is the summit of the Stelvio pass. It is worth bearing in mind that at 2757 metres it is the 2nd highest pass in the Alps and as such the snow there at present is a mere dusting. Someone already posted a link of the timelapse video showing the snow reach the sign on the hotel, but here it is again -

Despite the cold, not many showers are expected in Lapland this weekend - but just incase they are:

http://www.smhi.se/en/Weather/2.732/Rainfall-radar

http://scandinavia.meteox.com/forecastloop.aspx?type=1 - a nice little forecast

And of course for Alps snow - buy yourself NW radar for just £3.49p/m! It really is amazing, especially when watching for snow/rain in winter and with storms in summer and beyond - aswell as having a UK radar, it has a Euro radar! Really helpful for me at least.
