Yes, the last two Christmas's were white here. Although i suppose not technically white Christmas according to the bookies as i don't remember snow falling on those days. Would be good to make it a hatrick though!

Ultimate fantasy would be a xmas eve snowstorm, leaving 40cm on the ground for the big day! smile.png

I think the anticipation of a snow event and the build up to it in the MOD thread is just unbeatable!

When the site comes alive and is at its best in my opinion.

Not to be disrespectful but this is a pointless thread. No point thinking about what might happen on Christmas Day when it's the first day of September!

All a bit of fun though.

He did say that the same thread was started at the same time last year :)

Agree. Its a wishful thinking thread. Nobody can predict a single day's weather, nigh on 4 months out. Even if you are predicting a cold or a mild winter, it still will not guarantee a snowy or a gree Christmas Day. So this thread will be about a) past Christmas events b] what you are wishing for.

Mr Data would no doubt come in handy here, but I recall reading somewhere that two consecutive white Xmases have not happened since something like the 1870's. That said, I guess you have to have a liberal interpretation of it given that snow was lying only this year just gone (and I think that may well have been the case the year before at least in my location).

I'd guess that you'd have to go back to the mini-ice age for three in a row.

We had snow on the ground last christmas, which made things so festive that I could have cried with joy!

All thoses years on net weather chasing those northerly topplers....thank god those days are gone! (well for a few years anyway).

This year will be just as cold if not colder than last, I have every faith in that.

As for Christmas, I think it will be white for a good splodge of the uk, at least in terms of snow on the ground.

As to whether it will be falling, I'd say no for around these parts but yes for the north.

last year was my second ever Christmas with snow, the first was when i was 2 or 3 and we lived in Plymouth (im nearly 31). so i'd be ok with not having a white one, although it would be gert lush!

Nobody cares. It's called having a bit of fun, nobody is trying to predict whether it will be a white Christmas or not.

After last year, we missed out on the snow during the latter half of December. Something similar to December 2009 with the cold of December 2010 please. :)

    • Wet March so far with more rain for the rest of the month, but hints of more settled weather early April

It's been a wet March for much of the UK, with well above average rainfall, though the Northern & Western Isles have been drier than average. Despite a colder drier respite on Monday, staying generally unsettled to see out the rest of the month. But hints of some drier weather in early April. Read the full update here
