Oh yeah? Have a look at what has happened to them in the last 20 minutes. We do know a LITTLE over here about what happens to ppn as it works its way across the Pennines, you know. There is NO WAY that places in the East will get inches of snow tonight.

Indeed, everything ALWAYS dies out, ALWAYS.

No problemo. I find your posts very informative and interesting :) What comes from your neck of the woods is coming straight to where I am :)

Ah thanks mate. :)

Yeah, well there's some hefty showers on their way to you. Gonna miss me by 5-10 miles. :(

What is the reason for a few mins of hail, then snow then back to hail?

750hpa = 10000ft

850hpa = 5000ft

:acute:

Ah, cheers Snow_Joke. In this case then the 850 vectors would be a much better bet, as these clouds seem pretty low.

Now you know how the westerners feel when we get covered in snow whilst they get the scraps if they are lucky. Its called the rain-shadow effect and this is one of the negative reasons of the Pennines although they do help keep us bright and sunny in the summer time so we can't complain too much.

A nice batch of showers blowing in off the Irish Sea into the Wirral on a slightly more southerly point of origin than previous showers, I'd expect these to give accs over the Peak District in the next hour or two before fizzling as they head towards Notts

Seriously nothing will make it across pennines on a north westerly stop gettin excited wait for a northerly or north easterly.

What is the reason for a few mins of hail, then snow then back to hail?

I could put that down to 3 things:

1) The instability of the atmosphere

2) The size of the drops falling from the cloud falling through different layers of temperature in the atmosphere

3) Energy in showers merging.

Picking up anything more on the Radar yet? as things are getting rather tedious round these parts at the minute.

June 26 and 27 were hot (28°C here), a shower or two on 26.

That was it.

There will be other opportunities for us during the winter I'm sure, still plenty of time to go. :) And if winter fails, we always got summer to look forward two. :rolleyes:

I seem to recall no 5 day period was warmer than Sep 27-Oct 1 here... diabolical was our summer, diabolical!

Just had a fluttering of snow :)

Looks like we have one more chance for a proper snow shower as the showers seem to be gathering strength across Dumfries yet again.
