It's now turned to a sleety mix. That just seemed to be on it's leading edge. I think if it gets any heavier, it will be like this morning...A nice heavy snow shower.

Met Office have issued a 'yellow alert' across the Pennines for Ice this morning.

Wintry showers will tend to ease, although with a few more centimetres of snow still

possible over high ground as we move into Tuesday morning. Additionally,

icy stretches are likely to develop on untreated surfaces where wintry showers have fallen.

The public should be aware of potential disruption to transport networks.

No idea where this supposed air frost will come from, the temperature has been rising and it's breezy

Yup, looks like our good old friend the irish sea has helped things water down a bit meaning no proper snowy precipitation.

But ah well there's always next time, whenever that may be.

You need to understand that the synoptics have to be perfectly timed for this part of the region, I mean pefectly timed.

The Irish sea SST are on the mild side, which isn't surprising. Then we had marginal uppers at -5.6C this would ordinarily

be enough if your ASL was at around 300m and even better higher, where temperatures are more conducive.

Unfortunately for our part of the region, nothing went remotely right, which is understandable when you consider all the

facts of the situation. We where simply to warm, was it the sea? It played a part yes, but there where other factors that

where simply not conducive for us to see any snow.

What we had where hail showers, some of these torrential at times throughout today, but the temperature did no vary at all

even in those torrential hail showers..if any thing this evening, as seen a slight increase in the temperature.

Current temperature is slowly dropping.

Temp +5.5C down from 6.1C 1 hour ago.

DP +3C +1C increase in past 2.5 hours

Wind chill -0.4C

Humidity 86%

Barometer 1002.2mb slowly rising

Visibility 11KM

Wind Direction: West

Wind Speed 29 K/PH gust 38 K/PH ocassionally

Wahey snow made it to the North York Moors. Few cm at the top of Sutton Bank. Bit dodgy driving up a 25% gradient hill in the snow but worth it when i reached the top. Snow line is around 250m. Nice to see some eastern parts can get snow too :p

Just been outside for a sneaky cigarette and confirm it is snowing here! Wind is up, ground is frosty, starry sky, a whiffs of cloud about, but it is snowing here - just very very lightly!

A prolonged heavy snow shower here over the last 40 minutes has added another 1.5cm to the existing cover and re-covered all the roads which were clear earlier this morning.

Lovely sunny day here, although high level cloud starting to move in. Still have a 2 inch covering of snow from yesterday. Temp 1.5c.

Any chance of more showers today? Or is that it now until Friday?

Had a bit of sleety-slushy mix last night but nothing white or snowy. On the wrong side of marginal for me over the last few days. Not quite cold enough and high enough to experience any falling snow. Most of the heaviest showers seems to have passed north and south too. Still early days yet, and looking forward to more cold incursions as winter plays out.

The next point of interest is Friday and Saturday. Just how cold the air is as its swept in behind that vigorous low.

Agreed. GFS suggests that lying snow should be largely confined to northern hills, with a fair amount of warmer air wrapped around the low, but the ECMWF run strongly supports a window of opportunity for lying snow in the Midlands and northern England on Friday night. I think the GFS may turn out to be nearer the mark as UKMO/ECM often underestimate those warmer pools, but the possibility is there of something more widespread.

Here at Cleadon it's been dry since 8am yesterday, having missed the overnight showers, but like the night before it wasn't cold enough anyway, with a maximum of 3.4C at 1:25am (so if Cleadon had caught one of those showers it may well have resulted in rain).

The rain out to the West now signs of the first warm front moving in, verified by the radar as not a single batch of snowfall is falling within this region..48hours of snow is still nothing to complain about in early December, bring on January & Feb.

And five miles down the road rain temp 3c dp 2c

Meto going for sleet/snow showers away from the coast tonight...dont think so lol

C.S

The above was supposed to be a response to BT not to yourself, my bad sorry lol

2 miles and +6.4C ...not sure how you managed to even get sleet or snow, since runcorn only recorded heavy hail showers. Today mild murk and heavy rain showers mixed with light hail.

Last 24 hours no chance for snow, dew point on the very very positive side of things and remained that way through saturday and sunday night, last night it was even milder. Temperature did not deviate below +5C, with ocassional light rain showers.

Today 7.3C tomorrow should see an even bigger increase in temperature to around 8/9C and by Thursday 11C, then by friday back to 7C.

Atlantic looks mobile enough to give up plenty of rain..maybe a few useless and annoying hail showers...but sleet and snow?..thats more like wishful thinking..if you'd have had sleet / snow so would I and since its been way way to mild and beyond marginal throughout the whole of yesterday I just find the claim rather odd..not saying I dont believe you...but fact is, your too close for me not to have gotten the same ./ similar weather since we tend to share snow events...nada yesterday..was too mild..we had a lot of rain
