Only for cold to return tomorrow, move away Thursday afternoon, and return Thursday night.

I'm not denying that I'm fairly happy with the current set up, its much better than mild zonal, and I enjoy the crisp mornings at the chance for a bit of radar watching!

Yup, doesn't seem to be doing so bad up until now either well for the beginning of December anyway which is all that really counts. :winky:

I pretty much nailed November. Was VERY surprised at that!

It's fantastic that we're getting this when just a few weeks ago we had a Euro High and everyone was writing winter off. :)

i want some snow will it be like last year ??

The front has almost fizzled out, and the temperature has risen to 3°C here :smilz38:

Hope we get snow on Thursday. All I had was hail/graupal stuff. Did have snow fluries, but nothing substantial and that's at 700ft. Over the hills near me about a 20 minute walk it's much more thicker from what I am aware of.

Get tomorrow at college out of the way with then bring on Thursday!

Also, any ideas on how Windermere may do?

I want to go to Orrest Head sometime when everywhere's white.

No one knows. Mid January to February will be when Winter is most likely to strike.

Slightly but I wouldn't think it'd make a huge amount of difference. A decent wind storm would help somewhat as it will help to mix the water levels and cool the warmer surface.

I think it more depends on how much colder this airmass is. If it more colder than it will be less marginal.

Well with the stratosphere as cold as it is, brief topplers are the best we can get in December.

We can't tap into any really cold air and sustain it for long at all unfortunately. The PV simply won't allow it.

For the south you did and that indeed is where it was the warmest but pretty much the whole of UK going all the way up to Scotland frequently experienced above average temperatures with the final CET for the month being 9.6 whilst you went for 7.7.

Still that isn't really a part of winter and nobody really saw that coming so I'll let you off on that one. :winky:

I got the CET wrong, but the temperature range and weather bang on. I'm very happy with that. :D

Actually a massive upgrade on the 12z for the N parts of N England, the GFS shows the the -9c T850 line making into Cumbria along with the 515 dam line on Friday, so any ppn will be of snow up here and nothing marginal!! :)

Add in gale force winds = blizzards :good:

The showers will be blown well over land given the strength of the winds currently forecast, are you sheltered by the Pennines?

Troughs in the flow will crop up at short notice, the instability is there.

Will we get a 'Cold and Windy' thread like the Scottish one? :)

Well there is a kind of gap in the Pennines which at times can get them showers over here. and we need troughs I reckon for us in the east :)

Gusts of 70-75mph forecast on the Meto site for West Cumbria later tonight and Wednesday morning, and no mention or warnings?

Seems a bit odd doesn't it?

I would have thought winds up to 70mph would at least warrant a yellow warning.

Very strange, last time they didn't issue warnings trees were uprooted and the roof of a nursery blew right off!! I recorded gusts of 70-75mph that day (17th October)

Westerly winds 40-45mph with gusts 70-75mph actually on the Meto site, and in the written forecast text they say 'windy'

I tend to think, when it will be very severe, the Met will tend to underplay it..
