We'd need the low to push maybe a bit mire NW to allow colder in? Then maybe some heights over Greenland to help the cause?

Not to mention the two storms on the ECM within the next 10 days.

this would give us a good shot at blizzards let along a flake or two!

Some very downbeat posts on here tonight. Snow was never really that high a chance anyway tomorrow. And I thought the cold front today was very entertaining. It's now clearing nicely out there, temperatures are falling and the wind is still gusting away.

Hardly boring weather right now!

Indeed Gord. If any snow does fall it will probably be a dusting at best. Todays winds and rain were very interesting! One of our Christmas lights that was on a board outside on a wall was ripped off! Many fallen small branches/twigs. Probably the windiest day of the year here.

Indeed, looking unlikely that we can tap into any real cold in the foreseeable future. In fact, tomorrow looks like the coldest air that we'll be able to get our hands on for now...then thats it for a while.

However, doesn't mean that things are not going to be interesting.

December 2010 was all about ice, frost and snow. Looks like December 2011 will be remembered for it's squalls and cold fronts!

..and to add to that, December is increasingly looking like one of the most interesting months of the whole of 2011.

Looking froward to the next 7-10 days...and then lets see where we go from there!

Wanted to catch the convergence of two wind streams predicted over the area by Gfs UK wind speed/direction(streams) This seemed to happen directly over the city, the big bonus was the squall line when it hit around 3pm (2.50secs in) BOOM the Calvary charged and in the direction Coast predicted earlier anyway Louis Armstrong - La Vie En Rose

What a surprise that the snow potential shown for tommorow/tommorow night/saturday on the charts has evaporated last minute into a dry westerly with uppers of -4/-5 rather than -6/-7 as shown up until yesterday.

This chilly spell is yet to provide even a frost here and the squall/downpours dodged us to.

To be honest, the potential wasn't that great...and it didn't show on the models for long.

Loads of winter left...loads more chances for squally weather during the next week. Enjoy!

...and that time lapse video of today's cold front is brilliant Arnie Pie. Shows the 3 minutes of madness well!

The cold front today gave about 2mm of rain, it came n went in no time at all here. As for snow I can't see anything for this thread to get excited about, its all looking a bit to zonal for us. Even cool zonality only really benefits the Scottish highlands

GFS is very persistent in some potential sleet/wet snow next week. Very marginal mind but those with some elevation could see something wintry. Saying that downgrades are likely. Tomorrow is STILL downgrading in fact!

Seeing the GFS downgrade snow potential (even though I confess it was unlikely to have been very widespread anyway), is like being thrown into a jail of despair! Even sleet tomorrow would be better than nothing, but fingers crossed it will be cold enough for some wintriness from any precipitation that falls, or that evil rainbow-coloured snowflake is going to make all your snow shields stronger! :p

Yeah, true. And at least to be fair, there could be one or two other opportunties in the next week or so, depending how those Low Pressure systems and storms are handled.

It will turn into 6c and rain as usual in the end

Either that or the lows will dissapear altogether haha.

Hovering around 4.6c at the moment but increasing cloud so yet again a frostless night seems likely.

Some quite beefy showers heading into Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire at the moment, with the current temps and dew points i'd expect to see some sleet/snow reports in here in the next few hours.

Yes, Andy, we've got about 1.5cm lying at the moment with a feed of short but quite heavy showers coming in from the north west. The showers didn't reach the southern end of the Peak until around 0530 but northern regions have had showers since late yesterday evening.

Temp 0.7C

Wind Chill -4.1C

Dew Point -10.3C

A few snow showers early this morning has given a covering of around 1cm.

12 mph Westerly wind, gusting 28mph.

Around half inch of snow has fallen around Fox House this morning.

Feeling raw.

They're dying out quite quickly though.

Yep :( Still hoping to see a few flurries this afternoon if the showers make it this far when the wind switches round to a more NW direction, doesn't look good though.

On a happier note, with these sorts of synoptics with storms pummeling the UK one after the other with only a day or so between them, at one point or another we always used to seem to have a very cold spell after it had all ended, either northerly or easterly.

It pretty good that we ARE actually seeing weather again after such a long spell in the doledrums? (spelling) .

I'm saying, it's not as bad as it has been, at least we have wind *let's one go and forces dog to leave bedroom*

If anything hit here it would fall as rain - dp is 2.1! Temp over 5 as well... but actually loving today - bright blue skies and a lovely fresh feel to the air.
