Its out there in the channel, its got a fair few strikes on it. Its heavy, shame probably not going to hit the mainland.

Yes it may just skim coastal areas from time to time. Amazing what a cold westerly with warm seas can produce.

That is fairly similar to the us tornado alley set up. Except warmer seas instead of hot air. It is a good set up. Shame if it came inland it would fizzle!

Chiono,

Wouldnt be at all surprised to hear quite a few reports of thunder overnight, right on the coast, as that feature zips across.

Regards,

Tom.

Yep me too Tom. I kinda regret not living in Brighton still tonight! The last two nights there has been a lot of lightning out at sea.

Tonights NAE makes thinks a lot more interesting for our region

I have a feeling it maybe over doing it a little, though, any worthwhile snowfall likely to be confined to higher ground I would have thought, lower levels seeing a mixture of rain, sleet and wet snow with little accumulation.

The BBC puts as South East but I'm 20 miles south of Warwickshire.

The weather here seems to reflect more the midlands the Brighton or kent

That chart shows we would get a dumping and Brill Hill is at 600ft is only 5 miles away. role on friday

Yes and as that feature tracks towards us winds should steer those showers out in the Channel more towards the coast and with those sea temps being anomalously mild, it should keep those cells pretty potent. Fully expect a few fireworks down there.

Regards,

Tom

Hmm, BBC forecast for London just updated and now showing light snow for Friday...with heavy snow during the early hours too.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2643743?day=2

Does this say something? Perhaps the low tracking further south giving the parts further south the snow?

looks pretty transient to me - i doubt London will see any snow.

But it is an Upgrade I believe

Can anyone suggest a decent lightning detector sire for the SE? Isle of Wight seems patchy lately...

Both Met and BBC (tho pretty much the same!) all have a sleet/snow/sleet combo for us this Fri am! Transient yes, but as Meto vid pointed out this can cause the most disruption as its sudden and fast and leaving freezing temps after to just ice it all up! If forecast comes off I'll be sad I won't see the look on my sons face as he'll be at school when it starts - he's only young but remembers snow last yr and associates it with Xmas - so he's been wondering where it is! As has Mummy, lol!

Looks like the south coast from about Sussex to Kent has had a treat tonight t/storm wise ? I'd be happy with that in summer, never mind December .

Just seen the latest forecast on the beeb looked good for us better than i thought it would

The MetO already knew about this, but why on earth did they hold back until now? I stood by this forecast a few days ago and could not understand why the MetO were not releasing the same info.

Croydon Council's highway division has been briefed and staff will be on full stanby alert.

Urgent weather warning of severe storm force winds gusting to 100 mph in exposed areas with heavy snow at times where ice WILL be a major concern over the weekend.
