hello again everybody. it's been a while. yep all eyes to the east now. has been known to pay off but generally on a stronger breeze.

Yep we'll need a strong breeze to pick up to get any showers over the western side of the Pennines. I think it's more towards mid week onwards that might deliver the best chance of disturbances and showery activity. Aparently it can happen at fairly short notice too, so here's hoping for something special as temperatures continue to nosedive throughout the upcoming week.

Oh how i'd like to be in Cheshire right now looking along that clearing line where drier DPs are meeting the warm front. Incidentally this lot over England now is expected to dissipate as those DPs move inland through the evening, MetO going for another morning frost tomorrow with temps around -2'c first thing. http://www.sat24.com/gb

Showers from the East are making it quite a way in land now looking at the satelite.

It all seems a little to marginal today though with some in the Yorkshire thread reporting snow although others, even with considerable altitude only getting rain.

Personally I can't see them making it over to this side of the Pennines as the current alignment is pushing them NW but with only a modest change to more of a westerly direction we could be in with a shout.

That said i can't imagine much falling and even with altitude, it could be sleet at best.

1380 visitors on the forum - The 1,764 record set on 05 Jan 2010 could be at risk if we get a widespread 'snowy' spell of weather at some stage over the next 7-10 days. 3c and as it as been all day here - cloudy. Skies will have to clear to get a hard frost overnight.

Edit: the 12z is sobering, looks to try and end the cold spell pretty quickly towards next weekend with raging south westerlies. I can't see it being that cut and dried even if the Atlantic does come off the ropes fighting against the easterly.

Well worth it.

Thick snow, 0.0C, some stunning pictures, and a fantastic day out with snow falling all day.

300m the settling snow line, 200m the falling snow line. :D:)

Looks like the back edge of the cloud sheet will be moving over the far north of England in the next hous or so, have a run through the loop > http://www.yr.no/satellitt/europa_animasjon.html

Temp sitting at 2.5c, should drop nicely as the clouds pulls away.

Very low all the ppn is in the irish sea and wont make inroads to our region, the block to the east is just to strong

FWIW the region will be mostly dry by day and night but becoming alot colder as the week goes on

for the weekend less cold with rain proceeded by snow effecting the region, before turning colder again into the following week

Just my take on it after viewing the evenings models.

Snowy spells, dry spells, moisture content showers, cold pooling, atlantic redominance, ice days, It's now verging towards the 'grey' area of nowcasting when most are looking outside of +120hr for a prolonged cold spell whilst forgetting we are now at the beginning of one and just enjoying whatever twists & turns come our way the next 5 days. It's in no way going to be 5 weeks of a 'day after tomorrow' scenario but there's going to be some quite cold nights and days to come in clear easterlies. All I can really say is enjoy the week ahead and whatever comes Friday be it Atlantic sw'lys again or a regain in easterlies is inevitable anyway.
