Okay if we're going to get in to this....

There is quite an art to lamp post watching too, particularly when it's very small flakes, I find you have to line up your sight so that the direct light from the lamp post is blocked by, for example, the central pillar of the window frame. This maximises the amount of flakes you can see....Yeaaaah that's right, that's some real science right there.

Some key things to remember with lamp post watching

1) ensure the windows are clean before an event - you don't want all that dirt blocking your view.

2) ensure you have the council's number on stand by just in case the bulb goes, and further to this ensure you have a good reason for an emergency call out for an exchange of the bulb. I find 'how are the birds supposed to see' is a useful one to have up your sleeve

3) consider positioning your bedroom around the view to the lamp post

4) if buying a house, ensure there are ample views of said post

5) try and avoid areas which switch off the lamp posts overnight

If all else fails, tent in the back garden is the only option left. You wouldn't want to miss a flake now

Hahaha brilliant reply! The part about positioning your bedroom to have a decent view of a lampost is actually what I did when I moved in (sad?) though, even here I can't really see the lampost clearly unless I open a window, so for me it's getting up, opening the window and sticking my head out to get a decent view, not very good for prolonged watching though!

Ok who else does this one.. Best during the day, You stare at the snow falling (pref steady fall straight down) you focus on both the snow falling plus an object in backround (like a bush or shed etc) then after staring for a few seconds you feel like your floating up!!

I've never done that, but I definitely will give it a try! I often look up when it's snowing during the day, there's something beautiful about seeing the snowflakes, darker against the sky floating towards you

Well my bedroom faces opposite a lamp-post ;)

BUT...it does get annoying with all that false orange light shining through.

HA HA HA HA HA HA I just read that out to my wife, laughing loudly as I did, It's so great to know that there are other Lamp Post Watchers out there, in fact I'm seriously thinking about creating a dedicated Face Book group / page just for us LP Watchers
