Don't be bitter, by the sounds of it you guys had plenty at the weekend. Same region but along the coast we had nothing but rain (Brighton). And one would suggest thta's all we will get out of this upcoming opportunity, if it materialises down here.

I'm bitter!

Latest NAE is out for Midnight Thurs/Fri.

Snow for most, away from Southern coasts.

EDIT: Murr beat me to it!

NAE +48, Snow for pretty much everyone. Not a great deal, maybe a couple of inches. Looks like the Mids will get hit hard. We're at the end of the line as it stands, so we need to see a slight shift East of the band, before it pulls away SW. Any adjustments West and those in the East of our region will be biting their nails. Similar to the snow of Sat/Sun actually where we were concerned about whether it would make it.

just went back and found the 'Murr Scale'

0- Nothing / Nada / just curtain dust + flies around the outside light

1- Odd pellet here & there- however we can mentally confirm there are 'flakes'

2- visible light snow falling- not visible to the lampost yet ( unless you stand underneath & obscure the light)

3- flurry level- makes light blue on the radar & a few flakes seen across the lampost

4- we can confirm snow falling without staring at the light- Can confirm to friends & loved ones its snowing via text etc

5- Status 2- moderate flurry, its fine snow at the moment still- it looks quite hard in terms of snow falling however its not amounting to anything

6- proper flakes falling- you will see them now- the odd flake mixed in with the moderate fine snow

7- transition to normal flakes all complete- moderate snow outside

8- 20p flakes going at a steady pace now- accumulating around 0.5cm - 1cm per hour

9- heavy 20p Snow - visibly accumulating + 1cm per hour

10- entry level heavy snow arriving- 50p flakes fluttering in the 20p flakes.. awaiting the beast...

11- 50p flakes nearly transitioned over- we can call it heavy settling snow 2cm ++ per hour

12- Very heavy snow inch per hour all 50p flakes

13- Blizzard- combined with +40 MPH wind-

it just registered 2 - 3 here for about 10 minutes!

I know what everybody is going to say about the NW snow charts!!! (so don't shoot me here) but they have been pretty good of recent. I'd love for this lot to come off!

GFS is a go for snow on Thurs evening into Fri also.

Not a great deal, a few cm's maybe. East Mids looks the jackpot zone at the moment.

We need a little shift east on the next few runs, to bring us into the heavy ppn and also calm the nerves of those in the East of our region!

Here's some back up for Friday from http://www.snow-fore...maps/dynamic/uk

If you play the animation you can see how the snow risk travels around the country in a clockwise direction ending up with us and some sort of snow event in the morning:

The thickness levels and the 850 temps currently forecast look a tad on the high side for snow for my area of West Herts, or is this going to change?

Probably be rain for me again, this isn't negative nonsense either, with southerly wind its pretty difficult for me to get snow, only a few instances of that I can think of

PWS have ceased trading after it was found their weather forecasters were more "exotic" than perhaps your normal forecaster!

Anyway we have that very fine snow, is it graupel? Hope the snow they showed on the BBC just now comes further south and east!

Yes I seem to remember whenever people said papers said we are in for a heatwave it was always PWS which as soon as I saw or heard considered it to be pony. So no surprise there then as for snow nothing here, just cold and overcast. I'm not sure about reports of snow to come, not seen much come from the MO.

BBC not keen on it getting east of London

It then drops down south and west

Still time for some change yet
