Based on latest model output. Subject to change.

I would shrink the 5-10cm area down to Birmingham and areas to the south and east up to Oxford and Peterborough. NW of Birmingham looks distinctly marginal.

We are supposed to be driving from Bristol - Crawley on friday leaving at 12 noon. Attempting to convince my hubby we should go tomorrow instead, but wouldn't be able to leave until 2pm ish. Is the snow likely to be down to the M4/M25 on thursday afternoon? Seems like it would be foolish to attempt the friday drive...

I wouldn't disagree with that... Let's hope that scoots slightly further SE

I think you will need to watch that old radar to pin down anything as specific as that. Not sure that the forecasts are going to be able to take into account topography and subtle nuances in the atmosphere etc. Remember this last weekend was odd as East of the South Downs (me) got a good covering and West got none in places.

Time to grab one of these again:

 Mine's filthy at the moment after only a few days since I last did it. (I hate having a dirty car!) But I need to get the power wash on it after the cold and any snow has gone to get rid of the salt in all those nooks and crannies.

Well I'm slap bang in the middle of the orange bit, so here's to another snowfest on Friday. What was seeming to be a dismal boring winter is suddenly turning into one of the best for a good few years here in northampton.

Daniel, I broadly agree though I'd only give a dusting to the placdes east and SE of London unless there is a sizeable shift in the set-up. You should post that chart here by the way!

Agreed - Although it is only a rough guide to give general estimates, there's still a lot of uncertainty so small shifts are possible, I'll do a more detailed, accurate map tomorrow evening

We all need to move to Chicago. Absolutely nuts.

'It's snowing at over 4' an hour and we already have 13' on the ground!!! Not to mention the thunder snow.'

Looks like some snow for the western region on the 12z NAE, nothing too deep but probably 2-3cms on this run. Eastern areas may just about get a covering as well if this run was correct.

Probably would require the warning to be introduced for at least areas NW/W of London IMO...not sure why they didn't issue warnings for those areas in the first place to be honest...

It does seem odd the way the Met Office delay their warnings so often. The cold is well established, so any form of ppn is likely to cause problems and it seems fairly obvious that virtually everywhere in the region will get some ppn... even the slightest amount will readily turn to ice in more marginal areas.

I wouldn't be expecting that much snow though to be honest unless there is a bigger shift eastwards. The models generally seem to be suggesting a small fall for eastern parts of this area, perhaps an inch or so is possible for areas W/NW of London.

If this were to come off i would be pleased, the way some are talking, me in far east will not see a flake.

Also if this chart is correct why has the met o taken my snow away on friday altogether,it had it on this morning then took it off?

All it shows now is a black cloud.

To be fair though looking at the GFS it does slightly increase the precip totals for areas such to the W/SW/NW of London and the NAE also agrees with this idea...

Still think for those areas 2-3cms is reasonable.

just a thought- saturday's front didn't stall as soon as predicted. not saying it will happen again but if it did, we would be in the firing line for the heavier stuff.... here's hoping....
