Mainly compacted ice (frozen/melted/refrozen) but around 5cm across lower levels with still 10cm on the higher slopes above 1000ft. I was hoping this current lot would melt away as there's nothing worse than venturing outside on already iced-over ground with fresh snowfall on top, it makes walking up and down the steep slopes 'interesting' to say.

Hahaha 5cm......that's Crewe's equivalent to your half metre!

all one can say, is lets really hope for the best tonight maybe we'll see something we have not since since early december

5cm? i got nothing last saturday the snow was 25/30 miles inland, we had freezing rain mate, all day and night after a brief 5 min powder snow which stopped

i meant the bit were you said "and having just 1 tiny wet snow event at the start of december is really really bad even for here." i can remember you saying you had 5cm

Id say it was closer to half a cm at best..it just barely dusted the roads and plants, you had more snow than we did last saturday lol

rofl, if the next 12-24hr charts are to be believed most if not nearly all of the northwest could see anything up to half a meter (well 25cm) from this quasi-stationary front. We've just got to see what the forcing mechanism will be that ensures all that precip gets from 'up there' to 'down here.' But exciting times and I would imagine the MetO are playing catch up right now in determining output and getting the warnings down.

Raining here. I'm working a nightshift tonight so will be able to confirm whether or not Backtrack has been let off the hook, whether its 3am or 5am, a few flakes and its..eyebrows entact!

Temp showing as -1 on my phone, which means nothing as the Manchester reading is taken from Woodford which is (a) rural & (B) miles away. I would estimate +1 or 2. No ice.
