Thoroughly wet here like most of East Anglia. 20.6mm of rain today so far today, 29mm in all since this rain event began.

Alot of surface water about, some floods to about 2 foot deep (sitting in the truck sounded more like sitting in a boat this evening going through a couple of floods). The River Deben has burst its banks for the first time here for well over a year. It usually does it 8-10 times each winter. Shows how dry it has been.

Hi John,

I don't think that I am reading the fax chart as you do.

Firstly there is no big high to our East - north East as you suggest. Instead there is a surface high positioned just north of the Black Sea which is very much in line with the UKMO 120 chart that you have posted.

Also the fronts over the UK are decaying in the high pressure and are unlikely to give significant amounts of precipitation. Anything left will be weak and fragmented and possibly be only cloud.

hi chino

i agree with most of what you say

however to 1040 high is there to our east

north east and seems a bit high to be just

a surface high

the decaying front hopefully will give some light

showers which the south east need

http://www.meteociel...arte=2000&ech=0

run this 96-120 to see the influence the high

to our east north east is showing.

as you say we all read the fax charts differently :gathering:

please note this is just my opinion

not saying i am right :)

I definitely don't think the chart shows a wet Saturday either.

If there are just light showers, they'd be annoying, as they'd make no discernable difference to the drought and might spoil Saturday's leisure.

A rather chilly start here, temperature 0.6 °C with a frost - much better than damp greyness any day

Seeing that lots of correspondents note rainfall / temperature / dewpoints etc., can anyone recommend a good amateur weather station, so I can record rainfall etc.?

It should be borne in mind that I don't have the best conditions for accurate recordings, ( small garden, proximity to other buildings etc. ) so maybe my choice could only ever be a compromise. I think accurate windspeeds would be very difficult to obtain too, due to local geography.

Any suggestions appreciated though. :)

After some research a few years ago my better half bought me this one WS2350 in a sale at: http://www.weathershop.co.uk/ it's a lot cheaper than some of the pro ones made by Oregon etc but it works fine for us. It's wireless and also has the option to hard wire it too, and can output it's data to a windows PC.. Software has been developed for a Mac recently - plenty of info about that in various forums though a google search.

As plenty have said before on NetWeather forums it depends on how much money you want to part with - have a look at the weathershop and then find some reviews on the web - thats what we did and we're happy with our choice...

Hi all

A lot of people and various sites going for warm weather weekend and into next week too, I say warm, low to mid teens, just feel like any cold we get now will be very short lived, if at all.

Still won't be long and will be Christmas! Lol

Its a shame that on wed/thurs while we get some real cold uppers, the encroaching Azores kills the showers for us. But its march and while snow is not unheard of at this time of year, its unlikely, especially in our region. Will be keeping an eye on the strat thread to see what develops from current suggestions of height rises ne. But its prob too late really.

So jealous of the continuing cold snowy weather in parts of Europe, they've had an epic winter and we came tantalisingly close.

Ah well there's always next winter :acute:

While I definitely like cold, snowy winters, I feel that winter is the place for this type of weather. I don't really like cold and snow in Spring, especially as appreciable snow is likely to be slushy and disruptive, followed (usually) by a rapid thaw.

I'm moving into the mode of appreciating warm, sunny days more now. :)

At 8am this morning in Dorking I was surprised to get caught in a heavy sleet shower, which was mainly snow with large flakes. Only lasted a couple of minutes but a nice surprise!

I agree, would be nice to see some sunshine and it slowly get warmer through spring and into summer, I love the cold too but it just won't establish now I wouldn't have thought, I know it can do but its not the norm, hate this grey miserable weather!

Lovely day here...blue sky and sunshine all the way - the early frost soon melted and the temperature has just about managed to get into double figures :good:

More days the same would be nice over the next few weeks with a gradual warm up as we head into summer with rain at night times (preferably accompanied by thunder and lightening).....not too much to ask is it

this'll probably (almost definitely) be gone by the time we get there

The last eye candy for any remnants of winter maybe, in FI (fantasy Island) 20th March on the 12z :whistling: stranger things have happened..

edit.. any hint of it has disappeared on the 18z pub run model LOL

Morning all,

Oh dear, back to nasty greyness this morning, and quite windy with it - certainly strong enough gusts to make the cows wobble

Not too bad here in the end - bright and breezy now !

I still think we will have a hosepipe ban, it's been the wrong kind of rain  it's going to take a lot more than drizzle to fill the reservoirs !

Lots of much needed rain today.

The clouds in the late afternoon were pretty spectacular. Looked like after a massive thunderstorm has pased.
