Wow that cell just north of Oxford is still going strong, and has gained intensity on the last couple of updates.

Rainfall rates of up to 200mm/hr under that, and still plenty of sferics, nice!

Just wish it wasn't so cloudy here, I think I would have been able to see the top of that storm from here if it was clearer.

The 2nd of those two cells that fired up over Gloucs/Wilts an hour or so ago is still going strong and looks well organized, some very bright echoes probably denoting some large hail, it's currently streaming NEwards heading towards Towcester and will probably past just to the south of Northampton

It's now the hottest it has been all day and rising. Hopefully that may kick off some convection.

TORRO TORNADO WATCH 2012/002

A TORRO TORNADO WATCH has been issued at 1445GMT on Monday 7th May 2012

Valid from/until: 14:45- 21:00GMT on Monday 7th May 2012 for the following regions

Parts of (see map)

SW England

SE Wales

Midlands

E England

THREATS

Tornadoes; wind gusts to 60mph; hail 10-15mm diamter; CG lightning; torrential rain

DISCUSSION

Cold front moving in from the west is being held up by a developing frontal wave as an upper trough moves in. Sunshine ahead of this has allowed scattered thunderstorms to develop in a region of favourable vertical wind shear for organised thunderstorms, with low-level veering profiles suggestive of low-level rotation and possible tornadoes.

Further convection is approaching SW England and may contain strong wind gusts although a more veered surface flow here suggests a somewhat lower tornado threat. Convection may continue overnight as the cold front drifts eastwards with strong shear suggesting a mainly straight-line wind threat. A further forecast may be required later.

Jane Louise must be out of the NSC now surely. Just yours truly and the North Westerners left now I think.

Thuberstorm now overhead in CMK, hail heavy rain and large CG lightning raining down with LOUD thunder, this thing has a mesocyvlone at the the rear I can see scud circulating and being sucked up into the updraft base.

Hi Mark just been chasing storm as it came over Bicester lots of structure lots of rotation underneath cell lots off hail then hail fog lightning frequent there must be a tornado/funnel report for this storm

That cell may be a low topped supercell. The shear environment it is in combined with the radar echo would suggest it might be. If anyone can see the top look for the slight overshoot.

Don't know about large hail, AJ. Fairly high freezing levels, low-end CAPE and lack of dry air in the mid-section doesn't really favour hail, despite the shear environment conducive to organised convection.

I would say given it's radar signature and longevity their would be hail despite the unfavourable conditions you mention.

Wow nice, I've never seen hail fog in the UK before.

I'm desperate for a good storm here but it's just not happening.

Did you get any pics?
