Oooo...radar looks interesting. Let's see if the usual happens; it dies when it gets near Norwich. Lol.laugh.png

It is already.

The heaviest rain hands down I think I've ever seen in this country in Loughton Essex.

Can't even describe how mad that just was.

Even everyone in the street looking out of their window. As quick as it came, it has now moved off to the NE and blue sky is following.

Have had off and on rain now since I posted at 1545, still hearing rumbles of thunder and had some very heavy rain, still looks very grey out there, is so humid too...:)

Think once the storms past to my NE into Essex I think that's pretty much it for the London and SE area. Not much convection happening to the SW and its already 6pm

Still my garden had a lovely water, might even get some evening sunshine

Little unlucky here so far, with everything either building as it moves away, or it just skirting past... A lot of dark cloud about, but nothing rally coming from it atm, so I think something is building over St Albans again.

Very dark to the south, with rain very visible...

I know how you feel mate, everything split past us and went north and south. Although I did hear one rumble that was over towards heathrow but I could not hear it very well as my neighbour had drum and bass blearing out really loud (he is 6 houses away it was that loud to muffle the sound of thunder).

had a moderate shower about 20 mins ago but nothing of note.

Good drive home, seeing several rain cores and great looking clouds. Went through very heavy rain in Colchester. Currently having rumbles of thunder, but I suspect the worst of it will skirt to my northwest. It looks like Colchester itself had ( and might still be having ) very heavy rain.

As Anthony says, I suspect that once this rain band passes through, that'll be it. It might still take a bit of time here though.

OK, that cell is dying out, but there are some hints that more cells are developing on radar, and there is some towering cumulonimbus to the E of me.

Large Cb to SW with thunder heard...here we go!

EDIT: Looks as though the main part of the cell is going to miss us to the SW.

The cumulonimbus ive been watching has been creeping ever closer to us, i think a line could be developing, so don't bet on it.

It's a line alright, but the main part of it is to the south - Norfolk/Suffolk border looks to be getting pounded ATM.

Gone cloudy and thunder (albeit a bit distant) heard here.

Just been through a short but intense cell. Plenty of thunder and extremely heavy rain. The sort of intensity that would cause real problems if it lasted more than a few minutes.

Experienced the storm that went through the N.Surrey/S.London area between 2 and 2.30 p.m, while at work in Croydon.

Can't remember seeing any lightning but could hear thunder rumbling around at times, although it was difficult to hear above the thunderous roar of the intense rainfall and hailstones at times, on our office roof.

Does anybody have any rainfall totals from the Croydon area from this storm?

I can't recall seeing rain as heavy as that for a long time and from what looked quite an innocuous cell on the radar grabs, between 2 and 2.30.

Regards,

Tom.

It's quite ironic that no weather warnings were issued today (to this point anyway)

Don't want to jinx it but looks to be a couple of big cells heading my way, torrential rain and some sferics, fingers crossed.

hi tom

was at work in croydon and have not seen such an intense downpour

fairly big hailstones as well

like you, never saw the lightning but heard quite a bit of thunder,

i would be interested in the stats from that storm as well

According to the lightning detector I should be able at least to hear some rumbles, but nothing so far. Very close and muggy though.
