As it's quiet here and this is a bit off topic I know, but the posting from Archiesmummy about the rainfall from the recent tropical cyclone made me do a bit of research about the heaviest rain from such systems.

I found this note about Reunion Island. Although the stations are at high elevations, I find these records astounding nonetheless. To put it in context, the four day rainfall record mentioned is not far short of what my part of the country could expect in 10 years!

Yes, if you went skiing, you'd think that was a large number of inches for a resort's total winter snowfall!

Totally crap day here, with patchy light rain, zero sun and chilly. I guess your chart says how breezy it is here too.sad.png I guess other people are having similar rubbish, given the few postings. Still, I think I'd rather have this than the persistent heavy rain further north tbh.

Well honestly. Yesterday it hammered it down here and no warning for EA, today it's just a little showery and there's an Amber Alert. Perhaps we'll get a monsoon later. :D

I see Edinborough is getting some action. Nice one. :)

Yes, but there's probably a whole lot of foliage behind that picture and you'd be bitten to death by mozzies in the night.blum.gif

Have they not rebuilt the pier yet then? It doesn't look like it.

Hello from cold, wet and miserable Stevenage. Still quite breezy here. Totally fed up with this wet weather now. I can't remember a spring/summer so wet. Have we broken any records yet?

I used to work with someone, who said how great the summers in the 1960's were, weather wise. I had read that they were generally very poor, but didn't want to ruin his halcyon memories, so didn't dispute it with him.

drove home (3 hours, grrr) from Harefield to Reigate and the last 10 miles saw extremely heavy rain plus a rainbow very low in the sky, not seen that before - some sort of optical illusion?

Yet another cricket practice for the under 9s boys called off tonight. Fall back position of beer and football (not sure what I'm going to do though!)
