Can you believe that the system that entered our shores on thursday night is still hugging the North-East coast? To put it into perspective, it came up from the south east, arced westwards across the Midlands towards devon and cornwall, spun through the channel affecting the southern counties, then pushed off into the north sea and now has spun back in AGAIN towards the North-East, persistence!

Id call it Pesky.

This was my last sound of thunder about two weeks ago. One thundery shower and I was soooooo excited. It started raining in so I muttered and shut the door. :)

I suppose one slight glimmer is that temperatures tend towards average after about a week and then perhaps become warm later. Fantasy Island of course...

Morning all

Raining again here but that grey boring bland school dinner type of rain....

I see the last remaining water companies have lifted their hope pipe bans, due to the weather we have had.

This is great news, means the weather will improve and everything will dry up again! Lol

Maybe all this reverse psychology is working... Tentative signs of an improvement in this part of the World from next week.

I've always had a hunch that this would happen - nothing to do with forecasts, more to do with the longevity of unsettled spells in the SE.

Could all be a false dawn though. Also any improvement might only be relatively short term.

Someone nearby is having a bonfire, which is doing nothing to dispel the feeling that we are in Autumn. Mind you, it is incredible to think that they have got anything dry to burn! The good news is that if the flames get out of control I can now use the hosepipe to extinguish them, whereas yesterday everything would have burnt down....

Yeah plants don't need any watering but will be good to get the pressure washer out for my car and for the annual cleaning of my patio/paving

A week or so after the hosepipe ban was imposed, the heavens opened.

It may well be that, a week after the hopepipe ban is ended, the taps in heaven are finally turned off!

Amber Warning of Rain for East of England : Peterborough

Valid From: 10 Jul 2012, 03:00

Valid To: 10 Jul 2012, 20:00

Issued at - 09 Jul 2012, 15:56

Heavy rain is expected to break out early on Tuesday and become more widespread through the morning before clearing away eastwards. However, some heavy showers or thunderstorms are expected to develop in places again during Tuesday afternoon.

The public should be aware that large amounts of rainfall may bring a risk of surface water flooding, as well as general difficult driving conditions. Impacts are expected to be greater in the amber area where some river flooding is also possible.
