i do not normally post these as they are complicated to explain

however they are the raw fax charts and if you look at the bottom right

chart you will see what we want to happen in the south east on friday if

you want to see a storm come up via a plume from france

the air just hits us.

however the main fax chart will show friday tomorrow night so will

be interesting to see what that shows.

Ok, so I've taken a screen shot of the bottom right chart. What do the letters H and T mean please. Sorry to be a bore but as I've said before I like to understand at least the basics. :)

no problem

h is high pressure

t is for low pressure (some german word)

this lines around each letter with give you a guide to the area it covers

see the t to our south east but see the line touching the south east

that hopefully will give you a rough guide smile.png

I think the T German word is one of the following;

Tief

Tiefstand

Tiefpunkt

According to Google translate. It also mentions Zyclone so it figures. :) Thanks for chart.

Weather is looking good for pirate day today, I slept well thanks to yesterday's sea air and sunshine (the bottle of wine I drank last night probably helped too) but can someone please tell me why seagulls have to wake up so early ?

Stunning morning in west Wales. Looks like the low cloud predicted only yesterday to hug this coast today may not arrive until late afternoon, so it looks like a day on one of the beaches beckons. Might even get the BBQ out later - not sure when it was last used, 2003 probably!

Enjoy the day, all

WAKE UP! The little beggars don't even sleep. :) They're always squawking in Ipswich 24/7. I hope you have a fabulous time at the Pirate do. Post lots of photos for us and we'd like to see you dressed up. :D

So, morning each. Looks as though it's going to be a nice day in Norwich. Very calm here with a touch of that Autumn feel in the air and plenty of altocumulus about.

Morning all. Hope everyone enjoys the fine day here.

I've been looking at various charts from the midnight run and these seem to imply that while there is a huge amount of CAPE etc. on Friday, over France, all the action will be just to our south and east (ie the continent) with us being a bit too close to the Atlantic high? Obviously things can change and model watching will be interesting this week - starting with the next update within a couple of hours.

One of these downloads is from the ECM and the other is from GFS and from slightly different times, so not entirely consistent, but these charts illustrate my point best. Whatever, it'll be a close call.

Others opinions would be good.

A stunning start to the day here too! Off out to see what's happening on day two of the harbour festival in a bit...yesterday was busy but I think the grey clouds kept people away. I imagine it'll be heaving this afternoon :)

Fantastic day here and Hastings has just beaten the world record for the most pirates in one place by an amazing 14000 - I'm on the i phone now but I will post some pictures when I get home ! Sitting on the beach now waiting for the Red Arrows display later on .

Hope your all enjoying the sunshine :-)

I'm tracking my sister and B-in-laws cruise ship via a ship tracking site. Must try finding out what the weather will be like at sea and at each destination. It's a Baltic cruise so I'm going to find conditions for areas they will be visiting. Interesting. :)

Fabulous day! biggrin.png Just a pity tomorrow starts with that Monday morning feeling.sad.png

Anyway, the 12:00 GFS chart looks better for Friday storms. My hunch is that we'll get them, especially with the Olympics opening ceremony coinciding.unsure.png All in all an interesting weather week coming up in the SE.smile.png

I will have my say about this friday. and many can disagree with me.

I feel that the channel is way too cold to get a decent import from France, on models showing the temperature of the channel it shows that it is cooler than average and has been for quite some years with obviously a few warmer than average spikes but overall it's been cool. You need warmer waters to sustain the energy of a particular storm, and when there is no warm moisture from the channel feeding into the cool upper temperatures then the shower will inevitably die. It has been like that for quite a few years and it really coincides with the dire summers we have had since 2006. The waters are not given enough time to warm up due to cooler than average temperatures, so my gut instinct here folks is that we will see a repeat of what we normally see from these setups, next to nothing!

HOWEVER...

Past has proven this statement wrong with very large storms even through the direst of summers, so the pendulum still swings either way.

Beautiful day here today. After a day gardening my head is rather like that beetroot above - but a happy beetroot. finished it off with paella on the BBQ. Lovely.

fridays fax chart is a pure race between low pressure coming up from our south

or the weather front coming down from the north

to see decent storms we want the low pressure from france to come first

gonna be a few interesting model watching days to get the final outcome.
