If there is no end to the cold spell on the charts I forsee panic buying. You won't be able to get heaters, basic foods or fuel for love nor money.

I see the Express has been ramping things up as per usual. -18'c temps they forecast across the UK into next weekend, well perhaps the Cairngorms but I somehow don't see -18'c in the middle of Hope Valley until at least late January into February.

At least the snow and cold can help easing the financial burden of many by lowering rental prices

If there is no end to the cold spell on the charts I forsee panic buying. You won't be able to get heaters, basic foods or fuel for love nor money.

A few years ago there was unusual 6-foot snow on some of the Northern Isles, can't recall now Shetland or Orkney - the locals were fine in their trad, low, small-windowed cottages and bungalows, with Granny's oil-lamps in the shed with lamp-oil, and the tinned food to hand, and the old pot dug out to hang on the swee over the fire... but the incomers with their internet-businesses, picture-windows, etc., were really stuck! Before anyone strops, the locals rallied round and took in the incomers, but it didn't half make me think about how weather doesn't stay identical year after year and that it's a good plan to plan for the worst...

So how is everybody's expectation of that morning after the Winter's first little snowfall, just when you open the front door and:

Coming home from Durham Uni, 4th December last year over the A66. It had been snowing for around 5 minutes before looking like this.
