Just to add further comment to JPs wonderful summary, I just want to link to Robbie Garrett's post from the model output discussion. Yes, as ever, there are conflicting views in there but my view, as to where we stand for the final third of November, hasn't changed over the last few days. Please pay attention to the trend he has picked on, it's this that is noteworthy, not the specifics. Having said that, I do believe he has misjudged the timing of the first cold blast, but as ever time will tell, clearly an unfolding pattern to watch. good.gif

Here's a post from myself from the snow and ice thread, hinting at similar prospects longer-term.

Let's not forget this was the same day the BBC with MetO guidance, had issued their late November prediction. It must be said that particular situation does look like coming off, in one form or the other.

FI in my opinion is now out to approximately 20th November, judging by the 12z ensembles. It is at precisely this timeframe, that we should see the first signs of the stagnating trough heading into Iberia or a somewhere nearby and consequently a building high slowly migrating northwards over the UK. I say look North or Northeast for the first cold blasts. drinks.gif

note the spread around 20th-21st

nothing decided yet as this would be fi

even at this short range

I have to agree with what GTLTW has said. Spot on. Look North or North East come end of the month and to begin December!

Fantastic to have a wide range of people who post such great posts and really informative for us all to see, John Pike, Coast, etc... Keep up the good work :)

I will try and post more information and charts but the laptop is currently broken. Should be fixed by tomorrow though.

hi got to love this weather

sums up pretty well what i am thinking as well

not sure if you have spotted this but the fax charts

show a possiblilty of some cold zonal weather mid next week

the 528 dam line coming in from the west could wrap up with

one of the lows in the atlantic and sneak up on us (especially if they head south of us)

not calling snow etc but interesting to watch

I need to catch up on some sleep right now and its probably time for somebody else to get a word in but this post form the other day has made me think about your prediction for next week. drinks.gif

Unless this morning ECM comes up with something decent I'm taking a week off looking at the models.

It feels like chasing the gold at the end of the rainbow at the moment. Lets see what today brings cc_confused.gif

I have CS4. Photoshop (full package) is so expensive for a hobbyist though.

I hope you're right.

However I'm always cautious with a northerly for the SE (excluding north Norfolk / east Suffolk) The number of times it has flattered to deceive here makes me somewhat dismissive. I've looked at weather charts since about 1980 and the best northerly for me (by quite a way) was the one in December 2010 (the month being a mixture of northerly and easterly). So many times it has been a 36 hour windy spell, with nothing more than scattered wintry showers, which has then dissolved into a short track northwesterly, in advance of an approaching ridge.

To me a complete waste of time. If it snows, I like it to last for a few days.

However, if I lived in Scotland, I'd have a very different opinion, as I feel northerlies are the best direction for snow there.smile.png

I hope you're right, like I said, but won't get excited till it happens.smile.png

I have to say it's a very good chance this Winter we will all see some snow - but that is pretty much the same every year!! What would be nice is three or four days of it lying and some minor disruption, but still the ability for the vulnerable to be kept safe and warm. I know it's a Utopian dream, but it's my dream!

Everything is so grey, brown or dull yellow outside. Feels like colour has drained from the world today!

Sepia tinted spectacles.

Anyway, the day is dross here again - misty dross.

Tomorrow sounds like it'll be like last Saturday again here - light rain dross.

Sunday sounds fine, without wishing away the weekend!
