Valid from - 26 Nov 2012, 06:00

Valid to - 26 Nov 2012, 23:00

Rain persisting through Monday will allow large totals to build up across the area. The wettest period will be during the first half of the day, though rain will continue through the afternoon and evening too. The public are advised to be aware of the risk of flooding.

50mm to 70mm of rain is possible across these areas

Very windy as expected over towards East Anglia atm with gusts up to 60mph on the north Norfolk coast. Severe wsw gales just off the land with means around the 50mph mark.

The wrap around of heavy rain clearing the east coast now with a breif lull in proceedings before the next batch moves in, really bad news for the flood hit areas.

Current state of play shown up quite well on the map below - one system moving away into the north sea, next one starting to make itself known to the southeast...

Look at those isobars heading into the Netherlands, I think the KNMI might be under estimating the gust potential here - http://www.knmi.nl/waarschuwingen_en_verwachtingen/provincie.php?pr=FR

The isobars on the radar overlays are every 2hpa for clarity purposes, normal weather maps would be every 4hpa, so something to bear in mind when considering wind speeds based on them smile.png

Well we now have a brighter period here with the sky clearing the sun has popped out from the cloud the wind is still strong and cold looking like another 10mm to 20mm of rain here tomorrow bringing the totals since last night to between 50mm and 60mm 41.3mm of rain has fallen in around 14 hours

Our local paper is saying the follow

A meteorologist with the MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said they were expecting at 10mm to 20mm of rain to fall across the North-East and North Yorkshire region over night and into Monday.

How ever having looked at the latest video on the BBC weather website they saying 50mm to 70mm over parts of Tees-side and North Yorkshire

The rain finally abated here around 10am'ish soon giving way to clear blue skies. Despite over 15mm falling in the space of a few hours (including the orographic lift as the front began to clear) river levels have thankfully been nominal with only the Goyt being some 1.5m higher than usual. Barely lapping against the riverbank. 48 hours will be the make or break to come.

Good satellite image here. Can see the overnight troublemaker exiting into the North Sea with tonight's smaller but equally concerning rains approaching to the west;

You could pretty much draw in where the Jet is on that image!

Stunning image! The next batch of wet & windy weather quickly making inroads into the SW now. Very stormy weather heading into low countries as well.

It's turned quite squally here with frequent showers. As i said in the regional thread, i was expecting a dry day but this is more fun! :D

Still a lot of rain to come over the next 36 hours, although the NAE suggests North Wales & NW England could see the worse;

http://expert-images.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2012/11/25/basis06/ukuk/rsum/12112706_2506.gif

With SW England seeing less this time, but obviously still not welcome.

Exactly the first thing that came to mind. I was telling the parents about this a week ago and how due to the positioning of the scandi-high aswell as jet that we was to expected just this setup we've had all week. Hoping soon this Greenland High builds in and finally pools some colder air from the North.

if you come over to the east of the high ground a very different picture. All streams and rivers are in overflow, or rather were this morning. Various diversions in the Doncaster area and Chesterfield, the usual spot under Horns Bridge blocked totally with quite long diversions around the town. Baslow flooded and the road down from Wadshelf into the village was mostly 3-4 inches under water al lthe way down. Much better with no flooding or diversions on my return from Pilsley after an interesting walk trying to cross a normally small brook twice!

bit of topic but I do hope this next system drops much less rain or else the east of the country, rivers Don, Sheaf and Rother are going to be having flooding problems.
