49mm today in Plymouth thus far. One of the highest ever totals for a single day reading.

Odds on that The river Yealm will flood and cause major problems in that area of South Devon.

Rain is torrential here now but looking at radar its even heavier further to my east .a large area of v hvy rain now developing over west devon moving north /east .and it seems to be slowing a bit . our local brook is over again but only a few inches also wind getting gusty .looks like tomorrow nights system could bring interesting scenes for mondays rush hour .truckers on M4 reporting torrential rain ,some are saying pull off at services for a break .it must be hard in this weather . cheers .

Inland area's still only reporting gusts still around 18mph however some coastal area's along the south and east have recorded gusts of 35mph. The far south west of England is the windiest part at the moment 45mph gusts there. For those wondering why it isn't very windy yet the low has still not arrived it won't for another 3 or 4 hours.

Has rained consantly all day - has now increased in intensity with regular heavy pulses. A filthy night - glad we have sandy soil, so it drains away a bit better. Some people are going to have a terrible time with all this water. Wind is supposed to pick up tonight is that right?

Funny how we are getting all this rain and the closest river to me its river level is falling?

Perhaps someone opened a sluice gate or something? Or there could have been a blockage that's been washed away temporally?

Strongest winds are currently over Brittany, gusting to 50mph on the southern flank of the low which appears to be just off the east coast of Devon looking at 21z obs:

Yes, sounds like a river burst its banks and is flowing straight thru the village. They've had 45mm so far, and it's still raining.

Below is my post from last night(page15) thought it would be best to re-post this now.

----

The Storm is developing and heading towards our shores, through today the winds are going to start hitting the South and West coasts, these winds increasing through the day and becoming very strong with Gale force gusts, the first swath of severe winds first battering SW UK into the evening/night and eventually all of Southern UK being battered by Gales, the most severe of these winds affecting SE UK and up the Eastern side of UK through Saturday night and Sunday morning with the coastal areas being the hardest hit with 70-80mph damaging gusts, inland Southern UK widespread gusts of 50-60mph with a risk of 70mph gusts, these to damaging in some areas.

Northern regions could see Gales to, more particularly across from North Wales to the Wash area south seeing a risk of Gales.

The areas hardest hit from the winds from this storm are likely to be(at this stage)areas of SE England - Kent, Sussex, areas of East Anglia - Suffolk, Norfolk. Essex, The East coast up into Lincolnshire and the Humber, SW England - Devon and Cornwall. South/SW coastal areas.

Heavy and torrential rain is likely to affect many areas in the wind warning zones, this adding to the flooding problems, some areas seeing significant floods.

This rainfall could move into areas not in the wind warning zones on my map, it is a complex situation and did not cover flood risk on the same map as this could complicate things.

SE/ EA/ East coast, the strongests winds likely Saturday night into the early hours/morning Sunday.

Below is a map i have drawn up to indicate where i expect the winds to affect using model data.(Fri-18z)

Lashing it down persistently here as the main mass of rain moves through, a few more hours of it to come. Latest GFS 18z shows the worst going right over my house around midnight. Over an inch now, think I'll wait til the morning to I check the raingauge in this weather. blink.png

Heavy rain again here now. 13mm so far today and expecting a fair bit more yet. Flooding situation here is bad as it is!

River Wye is extremely high as I was there earlier. Even trees near the river were half submerged.

It has dropped quite a bit over the last few hours but is rising once again across Wales. Wouldn't be surprised to see it reach 2007 levels or even higher.

Dont forget all the river cams on floodwarn, check them if you live near a river so you can prepare even before the warnings.

Bad enough having flood water thru your property, i just hope people heed warnings a put those unreplaceable things to somewhere safe.

Things like photos and that can be heart braking to lose, as they are gone foreever, the tele ect can be replaced.
