Very different day to yesterday - a sheet of high level cloud has shrouded us all day thanks to absolutely not a breath of wind to shift or disperse it, it dawned very dark and misty and cold but with little frost. A preety miserable december day. Hoping tomorrow brings some decent sunshine. Its been a relatively dry first half to December, but the prospect of further heavy rain on Friday and for the foreseeable future thereafter is not good news, flooding is inevitable.. its a grim outlook in this respect.

Well it looks as if this sheet of high level cloud has hung around all night preventing the temperature from dropping lower than freezing. I was hoping for one last sunny, frosty day before the dreaded atlantic rolls back in tomorrow. Hopefully it'll just be a brief visit and doesn't do too much damage to the snow cover on the Lakeland Fells.

Hard to believe it'll be pouring with rain tomorrow, it's currently -1.7c after a high of 1.2c this afternoon. Possible freezing rain event? Becoming very windy as well near the coasts with SE'ly gales.

Very similar temps. here but that breeze is cutting.

The ground is frozen solid,so if the heavy rain verifies tomorrow then some minor flooding

could occur as well as the ice risk.

Similar scenes here in Nunthorpe funnily enough. Cars that are parked and facing N E have a thick coating

My weather knowledge is very slim but looking at current temps and the precipitation tomorrow afternoon, is there no chance it will fall as snow?

-5 at times travelling through N Yorks

Where I live in Middlesbrough it looks like ice crystals just floating in the air and the light is shimmering of it all the ground and cars etc look like they have been coated in icing sugar I've not seen this before. Any1 else have this?

Yes had the same thing in Redcar, I am not sure what causes it but it almost seemed like very fine snow at one point.

-2c here in Newcastle, which is ironic considering it's the coldest it's been here and the breakdown is imminent!

Another cold day, however, like yesterday low cloud overnight prevented an air frost even though temps have hovered just above the freezing mark for much of the day.

Tomorrow will be very different and probably feel colder even though temps will get up to 5 or 6 degrees under driving rain and strong SE winds, a poor winter's day - the other side of December.

A half decent weekend ahead, but not the blue skies and hard frosts of recent days, a pity because a good snow/ice base has built up over the fells in recent days and the milder uppers will put pay to the good winter conditions.

I'm not surprised we'd get some sort of wintry precip considering the temperature was below freezing but what has surprised me was this small band ahead of the main bulk which has given us a dusting, shame its all going to be washed away later in the day.
