Dropped to 0.5C here last here & been up to 5C this afternoon. Met Office have revised overnight temperatures here tonight up from -2C to 0C , have seen on BBC forecast that cloud is set to move across this part of the south coast into the early hours of tomorrow morning, so this must be why.

I'm pretty sure we wont see any snow here Thursday morning, but areas just inland from Portsmouth may be lucky drinks.gif

If you look at the met office website then click map and run through the timeline you can see it there.

you might be able to access through this link http://www.metoffice...en-ore#?tab=map

look between 3am and 6am

ahh...see what you mean!.....I think it's a bit over egged though, a slight dusting perhaps for the blackdown hills, none of the model outputs show anything more than just the slightest hint of a dusting.....Of course, these are the same models that were predicting a long lasting beast from the east....lol

Maybe they're predicting the chance of crystallized fog falling?

Going to be some lovely rime scenery tomorrow morning!

Yes should look stunning! Thick white frost outside now so should be nice by morning with the fog -2.3c currently

Maybe Ian F will update us with thinking behind meto snow wednesday night in some areas as well as thursday because can't see it with any of my net weather gadgets. fool.gif

Absolutely bitter out there today. Cold, cloudy & foggy. A wonderful December day. Shame its not going to last.

Its this type of scenario that you can often get small snow grains falling too.

Be interesting to see what the 12z data does with regards to Thursday.

Mmmmm, 12z NAE not making much of any snowfall up to noon Thursday;

post-12721-0-86369100-1355240191_thumb.j

I await Ian's latest thoughts.

It does however suggest Thursday being another cold day;

So perhaps it is just delaying the Atlantic front. 2 more cold days according to the NAE.

Still frost on the ground where the sun never got to it, becoming very misty here now too, hills nearby have disappeared, I can see it becoming very foggy here tonight.

Proper cold at the high end of Stroud, thick fog, roofs, grass and road all white with ice. Fun in the morning....

Freezing fog starting to develop in places now, and this will continue to develop overnight, but signs it could clear in time for the morning rush;

Ignore raw output. Modified NAE has been shunted a tad northward as a nod to GM and EC solutions so we'll still talk of light snow on northern edge up to about M4 (ish) until sight of new GM and EC progs to have better consensus on this (or not).

However, trend has been to keep it all further south anyway and make much less of it as a feature re wintriness.

Sorry Ian if you can't answer this but just out of curiosity as its the same band of precipitation that looks like flirting with us in West Wales, any signal for light snow here at the same timeframe. No problem if you can't answer. Thanks

no, has it largely Wilts E'wards but more especially out to S of London. That sort of detail not to be taken literally however at this range.
