There is a lot of potential for two snow events - yes, but it is only potential at the moment and it could turn milder before the second one has a chance to materialise.

I'd advise against mass ramping just yet. Monday won't be nailed till Sunday, Thursday won't be nailed for another 5 days or more.

Give it time - it could get good or bad...!

The London forecast was disappointing, they showed the Northern extent being about 15 miles North of the South coast with about 2 snow flakes mixed in with rain, that seems a little TOO far South to me

Don't worry, according to Darren Bett a few minutes ago, the whole of our region is set for heavy snow from Monday evening rush hour!

Strange. I cant see that myself. Seems way too early. For our region anyway.

Tues Morning rush hour I can believe.

Very confusing.

As always shrimper..... TV forecast not matching models or what we see... Haha

The fact it's being mentioned and Meto now have a snow warning for us is VERY encouraging!

Just hope the forecasts show the same Sunday evening!

MetO have released an updated bulletin to Croydon Council indicating snow for Saturday & Sunday. They are concerned about next Monday/Tuesday for heavy snow help.gifcold.gifcold.gif

Admittedly if london and the southeast was split up from east anglia then those from cambridgeshire and possivly hertfordshire would to choose between the 2

Perhaps the METO see this band coming through quicker than the GFS. Or perhaps there will be another band ahead of it...Or perhaps they are talking rubbish! rofl.gif

See GFS PPN chart for 00:00 TUES. - http://91.121.16.5/m...90-574.GIF?11-6

Still not arrived.

By 6am TUES we are under the snow band - http://91.121.16.5/m...96-574.GIF?11-6

Conflicting signals. Standard for Beeb forecasts!

Landing at Gatwick on Monday around lunchtime, so it looks like I will arrive just before the snow!

Darren Mild (Bett)

Just said on lunchtime BBC weather:

Heavy snow reaching the SE just in time for the evening rush hour Monday. He looked worried!!!

I am worried about that too. Might tell the missus to pull a sickie. Wouldn't want her stuck on the A1 all night. We were about 10 minutes from being stuck on the A3 all night back in 2010. Just about made it home from work. Hundreds didn't though. Could be very disruptive this.

Less than 24 hours away and we're still seeing small differences between the models

GFS

post-7073-0-41439600-1357912473_thumb.gi

NMM

post-7073-0-79182000-1357912474_thumb.pn

NAE

post-7073-0-25267800-1357912474_thumb.gi

The GFS would definitely give a more significant spell of snow (by significant I mean relative to the other two, probably no more than 2-3cm if we're lucky) whilst NAE gives more of a mixture similar to the NMM

By 6am TUES we are under the snow band.

So conflicting signals.

It's something I seem to notice with the GFS PPN charts, they delay the arrival of precipitation by a few hours when compared to other models and forecasts. However I generally view GFS as OK with precipitation forecasting, so I suppose we'll see nearer the time if (and when) the precipitation is due to arrive.

There is this rare condition called snow madness and it's spreading rapidly in here, it causes people to panic needlessly, look way too far ahead for the white stuff and on rare occasions buy their own lampost ;-)

Anyway as others have said, the best forecast is nowcasting for snow unless there is a stupid amount coming a few hours away.

Tomorrow is a nowcast / radar watching / lampost event. Some may get lucky and see settling snow but I think most in our region will miss out :-(

Sunday definitely a radar day as I believe it's odd showers could be anywhere.

Monday / Tuesday that could fall in the stupid amounts category (for us anything over a cm is a stupid amount) and monday morning will reveal how much and when but will be more of the long persistent type I expect.

I am quietly confident that the whole of our region will see lying snow of some sort over the next 4-5 days but the details still need a lot of fine tuning.

Saturday event became Sunday, Sunday became Monday, Monday became Monday night, Monday night has become Tuesday.. It happens every winter, no wonder people lose faith!

The regionals are probably going to stay 'as is' for the moment to help keep things ticking over in this busy time for the hosts and mods, too many areas dilutes down our ability to keep things relevant and enjoyable for all contributors.

Anyway, we seem like a happy crew in here and we should share any good news with our neighbours eh??!!!!!
