Well the meto have got our flooding here in Bridport,Dorchester area wrong, what implication might this have? Shame the rain was not snow we would have a foot of it by now!! When I last checked we have had 28mm. Popped out in my van to have a look around and there is water coming from everywhere, only road flooding hopefully!!

Hi pompey, can you simply qualify it with IMBY next time, to save us and anybody else from any confusion.

Chin up, the models are only projections of what the future may hold. You may well get lucky (assuming you want snow) over time. good.gif

I'm probably the biggest snow chaser in here.still praying for some.should be used to the twists and turns now :-/

Going dark now, so it'll be more effort to see if there's any wintry precipitation!

May I suggest a torch or lamppost !! :-)

Band of light snow for all tomorrow evening and night before a dry blip then a band of sleet & rain melting any snow Monday daytime in a more pronounced mild sector, turning cold after the front clears again.

Just to reiterate my view from earlier re: today's/tonight's event.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't especially like or advise commenting on one run in isolation, but the very early stages of the GFS 12z run suggests a brief period of back-edge SNOW tonight for a fair few of us. yahoo.gif

I don't think there will be any accumulation, aside from those at favourable altitude.

My interpretation of it also hints at a period of light snowfall through tomorrow. biggrin.png

I am looking no further than this for now in terms of exact details.

Thanks awd, is there a chance though the the snow coming in tomorrow could make it cold enough for it to snow Monday to?

BATTLEGROUND EVENT NUMBER ONE, if not possibly number two or three and you know what, there will be more over the coming days and weeks.

This cold spell has some serious potential, you mark my words.

But serious potential for who? Does that include iow? Prob not ugh!

Can never say for certain, especially in these kind of set ups, when now casting is needed for certainty.

Based on the 12z data however, there is increased confidence on it turning to rain Monday daytime. All models show this.

Expect rain Monday daytime, anything else will be a bonus.

Been out about today. The morning was spent running and cycling around Dartmoor in heavy showers, with a little bit of sleet at elevation on top of one of the Tors. Temperature was around 6 degrees. In the afternoon in Plymouth and the car recorded 12 degrees, back home it's now 7 degrees, always a 3-5 degree difference between here and Plymouth.

Not yet gone on the MOD .......going now!!

Its like the lottery when it comes to predicting snow, so your guess is as good as mine. Without a TICKET, you simply cannot win.

I would say you do indeed have a good chance over the next few days and weeks.

Stick with trying to learn from the instructive posts in here and don't get too involved in the will it or won't it questions.

Try this for now.

4c here at the moment, dropping around 0.7c and hour at the moment. Dew point on the way down at 0.9c currently. Wind NNE at around 22mph and a wind chill now below freezing at -1.4c.

We've had 32mm of rain so far. It did turn a little sleety in the heavier bursts and can also report hail at around 3pm.

SM

nice to see someone from my location (:

acute.gif Yours isn't showing either so you will need to update it when you can get to a laptop or PC. drinks.gif

For the rest of us, I can see the Sleet and wet Snow line is currently following a line just a few miles due North of the M4 boundary.

Anticipating more reports of sleetiness/snowflakes as the evening progresses.

Back later.

I would just love ONE big snow event so my son could really see what snow is like. I don't think he really believes me when I tell him about the days when I lived in Hanham and my dad had to dig us out of the house because of the amazing blizzards........ oh they were the days. fingers crossed though, even a couple of inches would be amazing, especially after last year as I did not see anything fall of the white nature, good luck everyone.

Why is NAE 12Hz less wintry than the 06Hz when all factors are more conducive to snow, this is a genuine question by the way.

We only have access to the 850hpa and thickness' and Dewpoints. Dewpoints are marginal but its more the case that the WBFL increases as the mild sector passes through, turning the PPN to rain away from silly elevations.

This is the WBFL from the GFS, not the NAE, but the point is the same.

As you can see, the WBFL rises in the mild sector, turning PPN to rain;
