The second band (GFS 06z) a wintry mix late Monday (high ground should be more snow). As the low exits the UK snow on its back edge:

Do you think lying snow can really tilt this to being more snow then rain?

I think this could be one of those where snow settles on grass and cars, but not on roads and pavements.

Last one from me-

first band of snow to arrive 03:00 am to the NW of our region, trickle into london 04:00 am & into the remainder 430-6am-

should be all snow- that is when we need a bit of cover to keep those surface temps down-

For tomorrow, in these marginal situations, and most frontal snow is pretty marginal for us anyway, you have to make your own luck. If you really want to see some snow and it means t hat much to you, pick a hill as high and as far NE as you can and get up it!

After tomorrow it looks pretty good for convective snow which is much less marginal but more localised, it's then a case if breaking out the radar and putting yourself in the way of those showers.

Well said. Extreme SE residents better off being excited about convective showers off North Sea. Often lands us many inches of snow. Have lived here many years to know that frontal stuff from NW usually a bit marginal. Same for poorly placed Channel Lows. If we get snow Monday then bonus! But if not then raise a glass to more Northerly regions, try not to be disappointed and enjoy Tuesday to Thursday. It's not worth a heart attack guys! rolleyes.gif

Any thoughts for Barnet, north London? I'm expecting light snow early tomorrow, then some sleet in the day but possibly turning back to snow as the system clears. wonder if we manage to keep a covering? Chances of ice could prove to be more of a concern than snow?

A few days ago BBC were putting blue in the graphics saying there could be sleet or rain but everybody jumped on the Snow train and refused this point, hopefully they could be wrong, some sights on Facebook was saying three foot of snow

First band of ppn arriving in the wee hours should hopefully be snow, though probably light in nature - but enough for a dusting.

Very marginal for the second band of precipitation moving down tomorrow afternoon/evening - GFS suggests DPs wrong side of 0C for much of the SE, as we see the warm sector in close proximity sliding SE mixing in less cold air/higher DPs:

... though 0C line following the ppn, so perhaps some back edge snow.

Would say North Home Counties best chance for snow at lower levels, Chilterns and Downs likely to see snow too.

However, very marginal, so heavy ppn/evaporative cooling could tip the balance in favour of snow to lower levels ... usual case of nowcasting!

This won't add anything to the "will it/won't" it tomorrow but it's worth thinking back to the Christmas period when things looked pretty bleak for anything remotely wintry throughout January. The fact that there's a real possibility of snow less than 24 hours away for our region shows how much things have improved.

Personally I'm more interested in mid week as there looks a real possibility for convective showers in a north easterly which should be less stressful in terms of getting snow rather than rain.

On a final point if GP's winter forecast is correct, and it's been pretty good up until now, this period could just be the appetizer to a stronger surge of cold coming at the end of Jan and into Feb.

I'm expecting rain tomorrow and then to miss out on the snow showers from Tuesday onwards as they hug the coast. If I see any snow at all it will be a bonus.

lol you truly are a miserable bugger, but good entertainment none the less

Anybody know when the SE radar will be fixed? It's showing just occasional updates. Have seen light snow heading into Southend imminent
