Had an hour of decent snow that was settling, now a icy rain/sleet mix. Not going to give it much longer before I forget about it and go to bed to be honest.

Yep,But hey. . .Feb is coming at least the ground will be frozen for hopefully the (BIG) Event.

Seems Fergie's expecting rain to turn to snow.....not the way round I expected it to be!

Would be interested to hear if 'The Eye' agrees with Ian Ferguson's Twitter comment?

Turning a bit more back to snow here, but the damage has been done! Snow was settling nicely 8-9.30pm. Other than the lying snow from the proper snowfall events, you can erase it.

katie - there could be a number of reasons for the rain to turn increasingly to snow from evaporative cooling as the intensity increases to an undercut of cooler air as the little low in wales tracks se and pulls the flow a bit mores east of south. tbh, i think its a case of looking out of the window and expecting rain. if you do get a period of snow, then it may be quite heavy.

Ok, there is some very heavy showery looking ppn coming our way later. It could be that if Temps stay marginal overnight this heavier stuff could fall as snow due to the volume of heavy ppn. That's my possible explanation!

Thanks guys, I was trying to say Evaporative Cooling

With Ian Fergusson......

Temperature's will not rise anymore tonight across EA & the SE until the front clears east tomorrow morning.

Once the heavy precipitation enters our region expect evaporative cooling and some HEAVY snow...... from 00:00 onwards.

I disagree with TEITS. Essex & Suffolk will see initial rain & sleet, then 3/4 hours of HEAVY snow dumping several inches in it's wake. Our region is still pulling in cold air from France....... cold enough to mix out the mild....ish air over the coming hour or so.

I expect the south coast to see rain though, with winds coming immediately off the Channel. Unlike N.France where it is HEAVY snow currently.
